Old or new, what games have you played that get a strong reaction from you?

The original KOTOR. Hearing the ahto city music brings a tear to my eye, maybe the best damn game I've ever played. I get a real sense of nostalgia whenever I play the game or hear the music... its just phenomenal. IMO a real water-shed moment in gaming, nothing quite like it.

There was this flash game online that put you in the role of a sort of guardian of a sentient computer. The gameplay was ok, but the storyline was......it was great. She (The Computer) viewed the inventor as a father and questions where he went and later the story implies he committed suicide. In the end, she was overcome with grief she decided to let the viruses to kill her. And the person who voiced the computer was great. This was art.

Silent hill 3, I couldn't handle Harry Mason's death too well.

Metal Gear Solid 3. I cried so much at the ending. And knowing what was really going on makes me sad whenever I replay it.

the ending to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Even though I think it's the worse Silent Hill game, it's story is simply brilliant.

Disgaea of course got plenty of laughs out of me. I still chuckle when I think of it's best moments.

Red Dead Redemption...after all that mindless maiming and killing, the game gives me a tearjerker ending, and god i loved every second of it.

Mass Effect 2 when you beat the game and your whole crew survives...yup tearjerker.

Metal Gear solid 3, snaaaake eateeeeeer.

I know there are other games, i just can`t remember

Fatal Frame 2: Both a strong fear reaction, and EVERY ending is high-emotion. A shame the "best" ending is only available for a particular console. *sigh*

Arcanum: Of Steamwork and Magick Obscura: Without spoiling, Virgil's storyline, from start to finish. Also, the big twists and the excellent writing, by the end, seeing how my "Living One" affected the world in the epilogue slides was cool to see.

Dragon Age: Origins: I'm pretty sure I don't have to explain this one. The fantastic writing from start to finish had me invested in the game emotionally, and the ending was satisfying.

Dragon Age 2: I'm sure I'll catch flak for this one, but there's a lot of subtlety to the writing that had me gripped in the game from start to finish. I can't even pick out singular moments that were particularly emotionally evocative, because they *all* were (for me). And of course, the Point Of No Return moment in Act 3.

I suspect there are many people who disagree with me on how emotionally involving DA2 was, but there's a lot more to it than the surface story.

Oh, fear. I didn't even think of that emotion while coming up with my list. In that case:

Silent Hill 3: The atmosphere is just so incredibly disturbing. You never feel at ease. Even after I've been it several times, I still feel uneasy when walking around the environments. Whoever did the art for that game is either a genius or insane. To anyone that wants a game to scare them, I would suggest this.

For me it has to be the Longet Journey. Yes it had very long dialogues (or in many cases monologues :P) but I loved the story so much. The ending of The Longest Journey 2: Dreamfall was incredibly sad, and in my opinion very very wrong on so many levels.

There are more games....I just cant think of them right now :D

The Darkness... first Xbox 360 game I owned. Losing something so pure was just too much. And then the end of the game was really good. Highly suggest this game.

Dragon Age 2, mainly the part with Hawke's mother and the serial killer. One of those moments where it just made me want to reach into the game and rip the guy into little pieces. very slowly.

Halo 3, when Miranda Keyes and Sgt. Johnson die. Characters who had been with you through thick and thin, but died in the end.

Bethany getting picked up smashed by the oger in DA2 when you play as a mage. She's just so much better than Carver, and much easier to like. Carver can rival Fenris is broodiness, but for a much lesser reason.

Saints Row 2, when The Boss is forced to kill Carlos in a mercy killing after he was dragged behind a Brotherhood truck for quite a ways.

Saints Row 2, when Aisha is killed by Junichi, and Gat gets his revenge on the punk that ordered it.

Edit* How could I forget The Darkness? You can feel his despair and anger over losing her. Here's to the sequal that comes out late this year!

:D Quoted for truthfulness.

I was a little suprised that no one had said mine but it would be Shadow of the Collosus, because of the great character of the wanderer and the ending which just blew my mind.
Also Infinite Undiscovery: partly because of the ending but mainly because Sigmund is awesome :P

Mother 3. An overall great storyline, but very, very sad all the same.

*****MINOR SPOILERS****
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Really just the ending when you're traveling through memories (Or at least I think that's what you're doing). You go back to West Harbor, Crossroad Keep, and you see all of your friends from the original campaign. Very emotional ending in my opinion. The entire game was executed well.
