I'm Old...; Sigh

I had to laugh...

As many people know, just got back from vacation where I went with my sister, her husband, and their three children (4th grade, first grade, and 2 year old).

I distinctly remember being told as a kid, "there will come a day when you want to be bored. When you want to just sit on a chair and listen to the ocean" and I argued it up and down that I'd never want that. That being bored is well...boring.

The other one was talking. Where 'adults' like to just sit around the table and talk. Again...that confused me as a kid because just talking about 'nothing' is boring.

I really looked back at just how 'old' I am now with my nieces and nephew needing stuff to do and complaining of boredom. I found it so incredibly amazing to be 'bored' ... sitting on a lounge chair, listening to the bay crashing, and drifting off...not sleeping but not really awake either.

I don't quite know when I started considering myself 'one of the adults' ... which is odd I guess. I don't think it happens at a specific age. I think 'adult' starts to happen you go on vacation and look forward to doing nothing :P

I wanted to start doing some work on the dialog of 'The Hollow' game...but even when I brought my note book to the beach, I think I may have opened it once.

And granted, I still built sand castles with the kids, threw the foot ball, jumped and swam in the water (at 45 degrees :P), but still, I really looked forward to doing nothing.

I'm old :( haha

Don't worry, I don't think you're the only one suffering this condition. It's been taking the human race one by one for years.

Boy, if *you're* old...

I know what you're talking about. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd start saying, "Kids these days", at least not while I was still in my 20's. Yet, I say it (both jokingly and seriously) all the time, especially when it comes to attitudes about older videogames or movies.

As for sitting down and enjoying the quiet, well, when your life is stress, the de-stressing becomes really appealing. It's what the mind needs to reset, to recharge and face the coming stress renewed.

It IS scary! Now that I'm in this nice relationship, all I want to do is settle down, have a nice home just for the 2 of us, cook my boyfriend awesome dinner every day, and eventually *shudder* get married and have kids D: And to think that just a couple of years ago I was telling anyone and everyone that I will never marry, and I certainly don't want any snotty kids....

Exactly! Why would anyone want kids? Whiny little snot-nosed punks are nothing but trouble. All the nonsense they come up with astounds me, it really does. :P

Hi there,

It kills me when the youth of today say stuff like, 'Man, I'm old.' By youth, I mean folks who turned 25 not long ago. I must be ancient, then! However, I too find myself saying things like 'In my day...' to the 8th graders who hang out in my library. It's when one is dealing with kids that we say stuff like that. Say it without shame, dude! Take pride in yer methuselan style! Have a great day! :)

I've been saying 'kids these days' in reference to people my own age. Heck, I'm haven't even hit the 20's yet. I've always enjoyed sitting back and taking in the peace and quiet, yet everyone said I was weird for doing so.

Maybe we all just have Benjamin Button Syndrome?

lol... *shrug* I've loved being bored since i was 11. What the hell am I supposed to be. Think you're being rather... i dunno, dramatic lol. I've always thought, even since childhood, that the 30's were still young and just entering the prime ages. Here's a 19 year old telling you.. you've a long way to go until you're "old". Get over it :P. Now... maturity on the other hand is another issue and one which I think fits your sentiments a lot better than age or being "old".

Well...I did open up the topic with:
I had to laugh...

probably meaning I wasn't taking it too seriously. I don't think I'm 'old and ancient' ... just that I was laughing at the comparison of what is fun for me now at 24 from my time as a kid
