Now before I start this there may be possible spoilers of the books and the TV series, so some warning must be given. As a massive fan of the books I have to say I'm very impressed with the series, granted I think theyv'e missed out some important things or added things in just for the sake of them. For example, some of the sex scenes are really gratuitous and aren't even in the book originally (The Petyr Baelish monologue with that girl fingering anothers arse in paticular, I mean it goes on for like 5 minutes). The story can be moved along just fine without those sex scenes or at least without them being as graphic. I mean don't get me wrong I don't mind that there graphic. I don't think any straight male or homsexual female objects to seeing nude beautiful women however it seems that they just put them into the show to try to appeal to a certain audience rather than for actual story purposes. Now other times it's fine. I mean the book has a lot of nudity in it (Tyrions purple mast anyone?) and I think when theyr'e recreating those scenes it's fine but some of the time it seems to be nudity for the sake of nudity and that always strikes me as juevinile. Now actor wise I think they did a great job. I think they cast the right actors in the right roles, Sandor, Tyrion, Arya and Daenerys especially strike me as how I imangined them in the book. They seem to have kept in the most important parts of dialogue and whilst they skipped some of the battles I can see why due to budgetary restraints. The set design is fantastic although I always pictured Winterfell as being a bit more stark (get it ) and I think they did a superb job on the Eeyrie. The acting in itself is good. Sansa and Joffrey really come off as hateable (A hard job for the actors to pull off) especially when Joffrey orders for Lady to be killed and Micah the butchers boy slaughtered. One hting i have to add that I like about Game of Thrones is that it goes against typical fantasy genres. I mean it doesn't have dwarfs or elves in it (apart from an actual human dwarf). The majority of fantasy out there always seems to have elves and dwarves in them and portrays them in few set ways. I also like how it doesn't have one hero who has super human strength or skills or whatever. It focuses on people who rely more on scheming and alliances than being able to use superhuman strength to annihalate everyone (Except maybe Gregor Clegane of course). Anyway what are your thoughts on the series (TV or book) in general? |

From what i've been hearing it's a really great show. Unfortunately, I've missed the beginning and so I don't really want to start watching in the middle of it all. I'm curious, is there a way I can watch the series from the beginning (without pirating) ? |

I think they did a very good job with the series. I just recently completed the first book and the series follows the book extremely well, just a few minor details are changed. I don't think that's a bad thing tho. There were a lot more sex scenes in the book than in the series, that's for sure. I too really like Dany, she's my favorite of them all and I really wish she gets everything she wants The end of the first book was especially good, I rarely like the end (I often feel very disappointed with how the end turns out).Overall, very good tv series. As for how to watch the first episodes without pirating, I don't think you can. I don't think it has come out for dvd yet, and unless a friend of yours has recorded the episodes I dont think theres anyway to get them atm. Edit: http://www.couchtuner.com/game-of-thrones/ I don't know if this is classified as illegal or not. But you might find other streaming pages in your country. Maybe the channel that shows it lets you view them on their webpage. |

At the end of the books, if george lives to write them I hope Dany controls Westeros. She doesn't actually seem that evil compared to everyone else and if you take the War of the Usurper into account she does have the best claim for the throne. Either her or Renly should rule but definitely not the Lannisters and the Starks are too honourable to make tough decisions. |

Stannis has more of a claim to the throne than Renly since he's older. |

***SPOILERS AHEAD*** * * * * * Thats for the re-assurance galagoth, I'm sure they will George RR Martin's gotta have a soul in that... er.... rotund body of his.I'm kind of rallying around Jon Snow right now, after Ned's death, he's the only character I really like. Best line of the series (IMO) "I can cut through the five of you like cake!" When I saw that scene, I pumped my fist in the air and shouted "F**k yeah!" Such a badass, he knows whats going on in king's landing is messed up, and he just ain't having any of it. As for Dany... I dunno, her development seems a little contrived IMO, like she gets pseudo-raped by a warlord and all of a sudden she's empowered and calls him like the sun of her stars or whatever um... Stockholm Syndrome? Kinda seems like it, I guess she becomes a woman, but basically being a warlord's b***h is kind of an odd way to gain a sense of confidence. Tyrion's alright, but I don't respect him a lot cause he buys his way through everything, I mean how many times did he say "Have you ever heard the phrase, a lannister always pays his debts?" its like ok, i get it, you're rich, jeeze. So was this Rhaegar guy really that bad of a guy? Apparently others characters in the book really liked the guy a lot, which leads me to believe maybe he didn't kidnap and rape Ned's sister, maybe they just ran away together or something, and Robert got all pissed and started a war over it. I don't know if I like Robert so much now... |

he did kidnap her and raped her in the book too. But Khal Drogo is a lot more gentle in the book than in the series. He's totally in love with Dany and treats her like a queen, she feels this place is becoming home, he's her husband that loves her and protects her. In the book tho they are all around 13-15, so it's only natural that she grows up. And she's been treated like dirt most of her life by her brother because their mother died giving birth to her (something Vyseris could never forgive) and then she gets sold to this nomadic tribe as a queen and she gets treated like a queen with love and respect and even awe from some. Then this fantastic and safe world was ripped from her and she was left with nothing. It's easy to see why she did what she did and why she became what she became. |

Did he though? Or was that Robert's interpretation of it? Cause I know its never explicitly stated what happened in the books. |

Rhaegar would never rape anyone he was a great man he loved her now robert all he ever was a drunk brute that was not fit to ever lord over a small village let alone the 7 kingdoms and it was likely the love robert felt was one way |
