In the books it's read more like he's punching his face in. Oh, and the mountain also says "I smashed her f**kin' head in" dropping an F-Bomb to emphasize the event.

This one stings though. Oof.

His scream though, his scream. It made you feel his pain and desperation. And his mouth, frozen in agony.

I thought the show did as good a job as was possible when it came down to the fight. The book version is a little more romantic with the sun (symbol of dorne) breaking through the clouds right at the peak of the fight, but the show made it more realistic, head explosion notwithstanding. The only thing I didn't like about it was how Oberyn was prancing around like an asshole after he impaled the mountain. In the books after he stabs him Oberyn picks up the mountain's sword and goes after him. Also, the mountain kinda looked like he was playing dead there for a while, just looked odd to me.

Kudos to the show guys for bringing the best scene (imo) in the books to life.

Ya, that made it really obvious how it was gonna go down, and I didn't particularly like that he did that either...

Poor Jorah, the guy's a hopeless romantic, he deserved better. Damn you Daenerys!

I'd also really recommend you guys take a gander at this:

It's more true to how the fight plays out in the books. If you ever get the chance, I'd read the chapter in the book, it's so damn breathtaking. It's a Tyrion chapter that occurs near the end of the book. I'ts just relentless and really well written.

I thought it was fine. It's kind of easy to play dead when you have a hole in your chest.

I thought this stung way more than the Red Wedding, Robb was kind of an idiot.

my sis was also way more sad when Oberyn died than what happened at the red wedding. I think the red wedding was more sad, more of my liked chars died there, especially Grey Wind. I knew Oberyn died and I hadn't really gotten that attached to him. It's a pity, yes, I would have liked to see more of him but meh, whatevs.

I think it stings more if you read the books because the Mountain is just a complete terror in the books. I mean, for the better part of three novels you hear horror stories of how he and his gang ("the Mountain's Men") rape, murder and pillage and you just sit there wondering when someone's gonna take this guy down. In the show you barely here of who this guy is while in the books almost from the get-go you realize he's pretty much Joffrey on steroids. A lot of what GRRM tries to do in the books is blur the lines of Good and Evil, but the Mountain is pure evil all the way.

It's also a bit of a David vs. Goliath situation but Oberyn for the most part really kicks his ass.

I've read the books, I didnt get attached to Oberyn there either and since I knew he was gonna die I didnt get attached to him in the series. I did hate the mountain tho and I know he's gon get what he deserves.

Yeah, it sucks to seem him die but the vacuum left by him dying is filled pretty quickly. I'm still kinda miffed at how they did the end of that fight though. In a strange way it's almost like Oberyn deserved to get his head punched in after he was prancing around the Mountain. In the books, he vaults over the mountain and picks up his sword and charges at the mountain, it makes Oberyn look much more badass. He also goes for the killing blow with the sword, but he puts his foot on the mountain's chest and that's when the mountain grabs his knee and smashes his head in.

Also, I'm now like 90% certain that the show is going to finish up before GRRM releases the last book. The show creators know how the series ends, so I figure they probably have a blank check to just go on ahead and finish the series. I was kinda angry at the prospect, but it's GRRM's fault for taking too long. I know it's hard work writing a huge novel, but he's always showing up at all these events and shit and that can't be helping his writing. He needs to just sit down in his mansion/castle somewhere and put his nose to the grindstone and bang out these damn books for better or worse. The show finishing before the books would be the height of laziness IMO. It's GRRM's damn job to write books.

After reading a shit ton of interviews with him, he's been hinting pretty obviously at the fact that he struggles with continuity, so he goes back and rewrites and a lot

I think he's really struggling with the narrative; it's becoming way too large. Not so sure yet he's completely lost control of it, but he's getting there. If you want my opinion, I don't think it's going to end with just two books, I'd say there's going to be at least one more after the next two. Hopefully it won't reach Wheel of Time territory, but it just seems like it'll never get to the endgame, which would probably be Dany invading Westeros.
