Did she act like that in previous seasons though? I don't seem to remember her being all that bad in S 1-3.

She's always been surrounded by better actors. It sort of muffled her inability to act. Now that Ser Jorah is the only decent actor left in the mix in Danyland, her true colors are starting to show more than they did before. No, she's always kind of sucked, hate to say

For what it's worth, I wasn't a huge fan of how they handled the whole Tyrion/Shae/Tywin dynamic. During the high point of the finale, I just felt Tyrion was way too emotional, it just goes against his character a little imo. I would have preferred it more if he just told his father to f**k off and the like, but he just looked like an emotional wreck.

And yes, I'm aware of what Shae meant to him, but still I just wasn't a huge fan of how they handled that part.

Also I really missed him cursing out Jaime, it really is so important for Jaime's character going forward and I have no idea what Jaime's going to be doing next season but it sure as hell won't involve the Blackfish which leaves out probably the best scene in book 4.

Le sigh. And yes, I agree 100% with unfie on Emilia Clarke. Sweet fancy moses she's bad.

New trailer. This season there's going to be a ton of non-book stuff happening, meaning the show at this point has pretty much passed the books. I'm hearing a bunch of different rumors about what the show's going to change and good on them, they basically have to. Books 4 and 5 are parallel narratives where pretty much nothing happens. I'm taking a liberty there, but basically you have two books covering the same time frame where there's a dearth of plot progression. The show has no choice but to spice things up a bit. I'm not gonna be butthurt if they cut out

as long as they have some other action, because the aforementioned's reveal and subsequent planned invasion of Storm's End is just about the only substantive thing that happens in DWD, aside from of course

Maisie Williams did an AMA recently, which obv turned out to be mostly about GoT.

Oh. Shit.

Really though, not much of a surprise at all. The only question now is, in a few years when the show reaches it's endgame (which at this rate still might be before book 6) will the overarching plot/ending be similar in the books? Only time will really tell, but I get the sense that GRRM doesn't give a damn that the series is going to over-take him. Obviously the show-runners now how the books end so I'm sure it'll factor in to whatever they do. I think certain bigger plotlines will be similar, but individual characters' fates may be different. What's for sure is that GRRM isn't going to change what he has even if it's told in the show prior to the book release.

The more I think about it, the more I'm a little miffed the show's going to complete this series. Writing books 4 and 5 as parallel narratives was pretty stupid in retrospect. Ah well. I still think he's struggling with the narrative. The more characters the more trouble you have down the line, and the overall plot progression takes a massive hit when you have to jump around and shift the damn narrative all the time. The same thing happened to the WoT books, and though ASoIaF isn't nearly as bad in terms of narrative structure, it can certainly get a lot worse. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up extending the books past 7 volumes.

The actual "news" there wasn't really unsurprising, like you said. Though I actually really thought that GRRM would at least have a hand in writing the series from this point on, but the article makes it seem like he doesn't. I mean, it's not like it hasn't been done before (the author of manga Tokyo Ghoul is writing the season 2 of the series, which is different than the second manga volume which he's writing at the same time).

The only thing I really "worry" about is how changing to these two new writers may end up changing the feel of the choice, even ever so slightly, that it may just feel a bit too different. if HBO knows how many seasons they want and all, then there's a chance that a lot of things may also start to pick up in a season or two, as we get closer to an actual ending.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about how the books proceed at this point, or about the readers. There's undoubtedly gonna be so much flack from people who either hate on it just because "it's not what GRRM would have wanted!", or because they later read the books and thought "this was so much better than the shit show". It's the same with all book series, and it's always gonna be like this. You gotta separate yourself, imo.

It was great and just might salvage what was, imo, a pretty insufferable season so far. The main issue is that the book material at this point really sucks (Books 4 and 5) and the show is doing the best it can to kind of make it watchable, but to be honest I think the dialogue is just terrible. It's an issue I've had with the show really since about Season 3, but like it just seems to be getting worse, I can't even get through a Dany scene anymore without cringing.

I get that they tried to change things up and throw Jaime and Bronn in Dorne but for f**ks sake that was an unmitigated disaster complete with a fight scene straight out of Xena, I mean seriously that fight with the Sand Snakes might have been the stupidest thing in the show's entire history thus far, it was that bad.

I'm not too keen on Sansa in Winterfell, she probably should still be in the Vale learning the game like she is in the books but that doesn't really make for good TV, there's the connection with Theon there, all in all though I'm pretty lukewarm on that.

Also, spoilery but not really,
