Can someone explain a little about what's going on beyond the wall? I've never read the books but so far I've been following most of the plot very easily, but the latest scenes with the Night's Watch standing around talking about horns and looking at the snow in the distance didn't really register for me. Were they watching someone they were supposed to meet, and realized that these people were training Wildlings?

Another thought... the show hasn't really featured Wildlings up to this point. They're humans, right? From the bits and pieces provided by the show I got the sense they were just more tribal and destructive in some way.

No spoilers about the future with Wildlings please!
This is what is happening beyond the wall from what I can gather ( Havent read the books )
The riders have gone to scout Wildling activity (Or White Walker activity because of what happened)
The most recent episode I believe missed out the part where a group of them went to scout a well known wildling camp/person and they found a huge collective of then, including ex-riders, who would attack the wall to get out of the "Winter" thing.

So here's the gist of it.

The Night's Watch has basically ventured out beyond the Wall for several reasons. They've been hearing alarming reports of Mance Rayder (a former brother of the Night's Watch who fled and is now king of the wildlings) amassing an army to attack the Wall. They're also looking for Benjen Stark who has been missing since Season 1. And then there's that business of the wight that attacked Jon and Lord Commander Mormont.

For the Night's Watch, horns are blown whenever the brothers see any activity. One blast means friendly rangers, two blasts means wildlings, and three blasts means White Walkers.

The group that Jon was looking at was Qhorin Halfhand and his men. The Halfhand is a legendary ranger in the Night's Watch.

Wildlings are humans that live beyond the Wall. They're not ruled by the Iron Throne. They make their own rules and live as they like, so from certain perspectives one could consider them savage.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying, guys. It was the rogue Ranger that had me confused. I re-watched the latest episode and I see it now.

By the way, did anyone chuckle when they noticed that 'Finchy' from The Office (UK) was playing first mate of the Sea Bitch? I thought it was quite... appropriate. If Finchy could name a boat, he'd definitely call it that.

Great episode despite some major changes.

-Poor Ser Rodrik. It happens a bit differently from the books but still... :(
-Tywin/Arya scenes are great
-Ygritte! :$ That scene with Jon was so awkward. Way to be subtle, Ygritte.
-The Hound is such a boss.
-I'll never be able to watch the Harry Potter movies the same way again. No sir.
-So happy they mentioned the Bastard of Bolton! I was afraid they'd write him out.

Poor Sansa, the girl gets beat up all the time, and was almost gang-raped. Thank god for the hound.

*raises hand* I've read the books and I must say, the ending came out of nowhere. :)

I'm actually fine with the change though. Dany's story in ACoK is so goddawful except for one chapter. This change definitely spices things up a bit.

Yep yep. Battle of the Blackwater. This is where they spent the majority of their budget. Should be some epic stuff.

Yeah, the wildfire was amazing! Love how they played "The Rains of Castamere" at the end. Also, DON'T LOOK UP ANYTHING ABOUT THE SONG. MAJOR SPOILERS.

Next week looks like it's going to be the House of the Undying with Dany. Can't wait.

Accidentally picked up one of the books in a supermarket and read the blurb at the back, only spoiled one thing though!

Not quite as epic as Dumai's Wells....

Sucks for Stannis though. Man, I'm so f**king sick of the Lannisters. What a bunch of inbred a**holes, and they always find a way to weasel their way out of things and win.
