Almost done with Mirai Nikki. Still fucks me up, but i like it. Seems like these darks animes arent my cup of tea. Totaly forgot where i left of on death note, but i'm gona have to pick that one up again.

Anyway, i'm looking for some lighter and a bit less intense animes. I got the advice to watch Code Geass, but i kinda want some more. I remember someone had an excell page with animes, if you feel like it sned me plox.
Here's mine.

Not sure what you mean by dark animes, wether it's depressing shit or just fucked up shit like Mirai Nikki, but I guess those are more or less lighthearted with no/very few/not so many intense moments.

Eden of the East (11 episodes and 2 movies) 8 / 10 for the anime and 7 /10 for both movies
It has a plot somewhat similar to Mirai Nikki but it's taken a lot more lightheartedly and is much less violent. And no psycho girlfriend.

Girls und Panzer (12 episodes, only 10 aired though) 7 / 10
Not much to say. There's girls. And panzers. And they shoot at each other. May sound violent, but really it's not. I guess if you get into it, it can become a bit intense during the battles.

Kyou no Go no Ni (13 episodes) 7 / 10
About a bunch of kids who do random stuff. It's like, the standard slice of life anime. So yeah, you won't find anything intense in it. But somehow, I found it pretty entertaining.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (28 episodes and 1 movie) 7 / 10
There's not so many intense moments. Rapemaster Kyon's inner monologues are pretty fun.

The World God Only Knows (2 seasons of 12 episodes out, 3rd season upcoming) 7 / 10
Follows the story of some dude who calls himself the God of Conquest because he seduces all the chicks in visual novels. It's pretty funny, I guess some rare moments are somewhat sad, but nothing tearjerking.

Hayate no Gotoku (not sure how many episodes, but it's pretty long and still ongoing AFAIK) No score (I only watch 1 ep or 2 when I'm bored/don't know what to watch cause there's no continuity between episodes and no real plot)
Random series made of random episodes for comedy. Parodies tons of animes.
Although wikipedia says it's a romantic comedy, the romantic part is not all that present. Girl likes boy and there's no development beyond that.

Midori Days (13 episodes) 5 / 10
Dude has his right hand turned into a chick...
Just a heads up, it gets NSFW at times, although it's still reasonable fanservice, just some nipples here and there, nothing too exaggerated. Overall it's a pretty weird anime.
You should check out the other animes instead of this one. It's not all that good.

Sora no Manimani (12 episodes) 8 / 10
About a bunch of people who like looking at stars and shit.
Although wikipedia says it's a romantic comedy, the romantic part is pretty much nonexistent.

Mayo Chiki! (13 episodes) 5 / 10
About a butler who is a chick and wants to keep it a secret.
I don't remember if it gets NSFW at times... but I think it does.
Like Midori Days, you should check out the other animes instead of this one. It's not all that good.

I think that's pretty much all the animes I've watched which are not dark/intense/sad and which I thought were good, alright or just watchable.

Overall I'd say you should go with Eden of the East or Haruhi. Among all of them, they have the best plot and characters, and are the most entertaining.
And really, if you don't watch Mirdori Days and Mayo Chiki, you won't miss on too much... They're really just watchable and are not that interesting. They can be funny at times, but that's pretty much the only good thing I can say about them.

I would add two more to Tiennou's list: Lucky Star and K-On. Both are really cute slice of life series.

And like 2 episodes where they actually play music.

Throw in the Ranma 1/2 series. Though from the 80s/early 90s, has both subbed and dubbed (both of which are good), light hearted, slightly NSFW, and about a boy who turns into a girl when doused with cold water, and back into a boy with warm water. Ran for like 7 seasons. Some continuity throughout the series, but funny, interesting, and light hearted with some action thrown in.

Ok... Can somebody please explain how Elfen Lied is percieved as such a great anime? Granted, I've only seen like, the first 5 episodes, I just don't see how people can claim this is "One of the best animes ever made".

I mean, it starts out with some naked chick just brutally murdering people, so I thought like "Oh, an anime that doesn't really "censor" boobs. Well, nothing really bad with that, is there?". But so far, all they've done with Lucy is just have her be some incredibly retarded (I'll get to that), sexual object which is just there inbetween the "fights" to add that extra touch of perversion to the show. Fine, a few boobs here and there is fine, but when they literally throw them at your face throughout the entire episode, it gets kinda tedious.

As for the "retarded" part. So far, when not in "crazy-bitch mode", Lucy has been very "innocent"-ish, basically seeming to know nothing about anything, she practically only says the word "nyu" over and over (which becomes INCREDIBLY annoying), and once again, seemingly TRIES to force herself into being a sexual object. This makes for an incredibly annoying and just stupid character, and yet people are all like "LUCY IS TEH BEST CHARACTER EVAR".

Other things I noticed is that the VA seems to be a bit off, with the characters not really having a lot of emotion put into the conversations. It also seems like the creators just tried to squeeze as much shit as possible into every scene. You have the parts where Lucy's being a little "silly", random flashbacks of the cousin's lives, some totally unecessary love drama, aswell as the "research facility" parts.
With the flashbacks and all the parts seeming to focus on the female cousin (forgot her name), it feels like they're trying to force some sort of sadness and relation to the characters onto you, but it totally fails, because the the flashbacks are all about the "love drama", which again, is fucking stupid.

I mean, sure, the fight scenes are pretty cool and I don't really have anything against the gore, at all, but all that shit they try to fit in between those scenes totally ruin the show, imo.

Unless the quality of the show sky-rockets after these first 5 or so episodes, then I'm at a complete loss here...

EDIT: Minor complaint. The ED totally ruins all form of suspension or drama built up during the episode, aswell. If you want a "dark" and tense anime, and want to end the episode with an "exciting" cliffhanger, DON'T FUCKING HAVE THE HAPPIEST MOST UPBEAT ED I'VE EVER HEARD!

Here's something you guys must watch:

Shinsekai yori

It's currently near the end and HOLY GODDAMN this anime is so good

On the lowest layer, it's the story of 5 teenagers growing up and experiencing the coming of age and understanding about the real "adult" world

BUT,
1. Set on a post apocalyptic world
2. The new-gen humans have psychic powers
3. Mystery that surrounds the community

And you ask, PFFT IS THIS ANOTHER ELFEN LIED BULLSHIT?

Yes, and no

Yes, there will be killings because power corrupts, and psychic power corrupts absolutely
BUT, it's not the gore + blood for the blood god fest that Elfen Lied was

Not to mention, one of the ONLY animes that doesn't do fan service (there may be 2 brief scenes in the entire 20 episodes)
No clothes getting ripped apart by tentacle monsters crap that is just... ridiculous

Are there faults? sure
There are some scenes in the early episodes where it's not really animated properly and the characters seem awkward.. but it's all good afterwards.

The only anime i can relate this to is puella madoka magica
They took themes and genres that are already popular and simply added some gritty dark story into it...

I haven't had this much excitement waiting for a new episode since... Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood

and the first ED is mesmerizing

Just give the first episode a taste.. you won't regret it

Well Dave, you already know how I feel about Elfen Lied. To me, the whole series is just a pathetic excuse for gore and boobs.
The only interest I see in this series is the stupid situations the author came up with to bring in more gore. I'm pretty sure it gets so fucking retarded that it's hilarious. But that's not enough to make me watch 13 episodes.

I watched a few episodes of that...
It's so weird. I should probably finish it though.

Personally, I really liked Elfen Lied. As for Lucy, it makes sense. She's been fucked over since childhood, turning her into a murderous psychopath with a split personality disorder. And yeah, I fully admit, the love drama between the two cousins was kind of meh, but the flashbacks to Lucy's childhood are great and created one of the most iconic scenes in anime. The part with the dog. As for the voice acting, yeah, this is one show where the sub is a lot better than the dub. Except for Lucy, none of the vas are all that good.

And finally, for the ending theme, it's supposed to be ironic. A happy love song for Lucy and Kouta. It is sad when you know their backstory.

Yeah, don't recgonize most of those. And the ones I do I wished I didn't. Eiken, is just a show about ginormous boobs, They don't actually show much of anything, but yeah, it's basically about a kid who gets sucked into a club where all the other members are female and have breasts that weigh more than the rest of their bodies.

And never got into Elfen Lied myself. Just never been into one of those bipolar shows where people are randomly slaughtered with boobs thrown in there for fan service.
