On Death Note, it's one of my favorite series ever, possibly my absolute favorite if I had to sit down and make a top list of anime I like. However, I fully admit that I view it through nostalgic tinted glasses. For me, I simply wasn't used to the genius characters actually revealing their plans and watching them unfold on camera. It's always done behind the scenes, with the chess master occasionally appearing to say something like, "I knew you'd defeat my minion, everything is going according to plan!" In that sense, Death Note completely destroyed my expectations. Seeing the back and forth plans unfold left me on edge like no anime had before, and very few since (though the latter is likely due to me being used to a wider variety of stories nowadays and it being harder to surprise me). As for beginner anime, I think the term is general for anime that is easy to follow, has some 'cool' moments (obviously it's debatable on what those moments are, but something like a big fight scene would be a good example), and has something to it that appeals to western culture. Cowboy Bebop for instance has the space western, bounty hunter thing going on that people over here love. Aside from that though I try to give good examples from different genres, and most importantly, I try to figure out what kind of genres that person likes and focus on those. |

I finally got around to watching the third Madoka movie, Rebellion. From an objective standout, it's an extremely well made movie. In particular the camera angles they used were perfect. And I really liked seeing (spoilers) Spoiler: click to toggle However, for me the ending left a bitter taste. It felt like one those anime series that just ends rather than having an ending. It was a really weak ending compared to the series (or second movie, if you prefer). If Rebellion ends up being the final entry into the Madoka series, then I think it made the overall storyline worse rather than making it better. Though that changes if we get another movie, ova, or season that continues on and wraps up the plot that Rebellion set into motion. PS: Sorry for the double post but this bit is what I was coming here originally to post before getting into the other conversations going on. Edited by Shadow Dragon, Nov 12 2015, 08:06 AM.

I posted a bit about this after I watched the movie myself, although I mostly focused on the complaint that the ending was "out of character" (which it isn't). I won't bring that up again, though, since you didn't mention that, although I can post that same part if you're interested. As for the rest Rebellion spoilers EDIT: Ended up going a tiny bit into the out-of-character argument anyway... Edited by savepoints, Nov 12 2015, 11:06 AM.

Soul Eater is a really good intro anime imo, minus the last episode. Clannad as well if you're going for a more SOL feel, with heavy drama elements later on in the show. |

I just realized how amazing 2012 was for anime. Sword Art Online, Fate/Zero, Mirai Nikki, Guilty Crown, Hyouka, and more. And I almost forgot Steins;Gate Edited by Zyan, Nov 16 2015, 11:23 PM.

Second season aired in Spring 2012, so that half-counts. |

Oh, it's one of those series where the second season had a different title. When I looked up Fate/Zero at first it just showed the first season's run. |

Yeah, second season is actually named "Fate/Zero 2nd season", because the cours aired with time in between them, so databases and the like need to differentiate between entries somehow. |

Not gonna lie, been enjoying Shomin Sample. Some cliches of characters, but the MC really isn't. He's not some OP guy or anything like that. He has a fetish for thighs, and not above having some fun with some of the other characters' naivete. His interactions with the varying harem characters get downright hilarious. For one, he acts as an older brother (despite her being about the same age, but looks and acts like a much younger girl). For another, he's like a mild Dom (not really sadist though) in order for her to be more honest with herself (like wearing things she likes). It's quite entertaining so far. |

Alternate ending to episode 23 of Steins;Gate was released today. Steins:Gate 23 β, Beta, to be exact. About seven minutes of new content, and it set up pretty well for Steins;Gate 0. Still no clue when they're releasing the anime, and the visual novel comes out in Japan on the 10th. |
