Me too. Hataraku Maou-sama! Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko. Shingeki no Kyojin Railgun S Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. Devil Survivor 2 Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge Date A Live RDG: Red Date Girl These are all the airing animes I'm currently interested in, although it's mainly curiosity for most of them. I'd say biggest anticipations for me are Shingeki no Kyojin and Railgun S. Possibly HenNeko, cause female lead looks cute, and Hataraku Maou-sama! too, because the concept seems pretty funny. Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge looked like it could be great, but people seem to say it's kinda meh. ALSO Steins;Gate movie was released yesterday. So now, just gotta wait half a year for the BD... ALSO The World God Only Knows 3 is to be released in August I think. Saw that somewhere, but forgot where. AnoHana movie on 31st August. Chuunibyou OVA in June. Mirai Nikki Redial in July. Gonna be good. |

Watching One Piece. Usopp came onto the scene, and hearing Sonny Strait again makes me so happy. Also hearing Zoro laugh makes me happy. I'm not used to Sabat's characters laughing. |

Haven't watched it for a LOOOONG time (the series in general, it just keeps going and going), but I'm used to the original. Though, I did catch the special cross over with One Piece, Toriko, and DBZ. Should have been an hour long, rather than 20 minutes. |

One Piece is way too long for what it is. Sometimes it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. When you look at it, in 500+ episodes, and god knows how many chapters for the manga, nothing much has happened... They just fight a random dude, then move on to the next fight. In my opinion, the story is poorly executed. The second problem in my opinion is the pacing. The fights are just too long. Some of them last for 10+ episodes. Is this really necessary ? You have to wait every week to have one episode, and most of the time, it's just a rehash of the previous episode. They're still fighting, and someone has yet to win. This is the kind of series that asks you to wait for a couple of months and marathon through the episodes to avoid frustration. I know this is a pure shounen anime... but I don't understand why the fights have to be this long for the same rehashed scenes. Not to mention, the action in itself is the same thing over and over - they arrive at some island, bad guy shows up, they talk, then they fight, good guys get owned, but then friendship, determination or whatever is awesome, so they kick the bad guy's ass. Only changes are the bad guy's power and the place where they fight. There are a few arcs here and there that are pretty different and they're generally my favorites. And finally, the character development is quasi non-existent. Luffy's been through some ridiculous tragedies, but he never learns from them, nor does his character seem to grow in the slightest. After 500+, he remains an irresponsible moronic happy-go-lucky kid, talking about protecting his friends, but fails to realize that he's doing it wrong. When I say irresponsible moronic happy-go-lucky kid, I don't mean it pejoratively, it is pretty much his personnality and I'm fine with that. What I'm criticizing is the lack of development in his character. Major spoiler for episodes 470-500, not sure which one exactly All in all, I think One Piece is a bit overrated, although not the most overrated anime out there. Don't get me wrong, I like One Piece, but this is definitely not the kind of series I would enjoy watching all day everyday because it gets old quickly, or one episode every week because it's frustrating. But there are a few scenes that are pretty badass, as well as twists here and there, and the author built an impressive world. In the end, I think One Piece is an average series with great but, so far, wasted potential. I see a lot of people criticizing the animation. Surely it's nothing impressive, sometimes it's a bit wonky, but it gets the job done, so it's good enough to me. Also not gonna talk about the ridiculous characters and powers, as it is an artistic choice. While I like them, this is purely a matter of tastes. |

Yeah, the series has been going on for 10 years, and the length of some of these fights puts even DBZ to shame, and that's saying something. I understand that One Piece is set in a massive world (sometimes too massive), but come on! It's better to end something on a high note than to milk it for years until no one pays attention and the ending ends up sucking. A good ending to a series was MASH. When they ended, they were the #1 watched show, but you really couldn't ask for a better ending. A bad ending is like the Negima! series. Over 500 chapters, 2 anime, and an ending that didn't explain crap about anything. You're in the middle of one arc, and then it ends because the series was cancelled. End chapter shows the father and everyone grown up, but no explanation of what happened between the time skip. Spoiler: click to toggle

i Agree with both of you. Most of the time it's the samne shit over and over again. But therre are alot of golden moments. Honestly the only reason i'm still wathcing is because i like the fact that it can be a 10/10 series alot of the time, but ever so offen it drops to a 4 or 5 wich makes me sad. Anyway, it's seems like a good arc is on it's way. plot spoilers

The World God Only Knows season 3 premiers in July. Woooo. Also watched something called Asu no Yoichi. Not bad. It was pretty funny, I liked the MC a lot and the other characters were good enough. Ending felt rushed, but wasn't awful. Next gonna have to finish Spice & Wolf, Dog Days' and Shinsekai Yori, cause it's been a while since I put them on hold. Then maybe I'll finish Kaiba, but the 5 first episodes were pretty boring, so I'll probably say fuck it and watch Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari instead. Besides, Monogatari Second Season comes out in July too. So I really have to watch them before that happens. Not to mention Kizumonogatari is coming out at some point this year too. HOLY SHIT Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! second season confirmed apparently. Saw that on Reddit, and after a quick look around, it seems that it is true indeed.
I didn't expect that at all. Really thought it was a one-season type of series. Cause well, the ending was an actual ending. But hey, if they come up with something good, I'm not gonna say no. We'll see. But for now, I will be dancing like a crazed fanboy for a few hours. brb Edited by Tiennou, May 8 2013, 10:40 AM.

I think the thing that kinda hurts One Piece a bit is just how absurd the art style is for it. It sometimes takes away from the severity of the situation when you realize the almost comical-looking antagonists. Heck, even Blackbeard is just an absurdly big fat guy with a hairy chest. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a huge fan of the art style, I think it kinda hurts the action a little bit. |

Pretty sure the only thing that could hurt the series' popularity is its length. I really doubt the art style hurts it at all. I'm not saying you have no right to dislike it or whatever, but the thing is, the series has always had this kind of absurd art, and yet it became very popular. So you know, if people hated the art style, One Piece wouldn't have become one of the big shows to begin with. In my opinion, the art style is pretty much the only thing inspired in the show. It's unique. Everything else is kinda meh. Action is repetitive and frustrating. Story is generic - dude want to become the best, so he go do that. Characters are pretty much the standards for a shounen. Comedy is repetitive, although amusing at times - I don't recall ever laughing my ass off however. |
