There are almost 600 episodes of One Piece. It's good, but holy crap it never ends. It's been going on for about 10 years I think. Currently watching an anime called Suisei no Gargantia. Set thousands of years in the future, its a mecha anime, but not like Gundam or Zoids. And it has one hell of a plot twist in it. On an unrelated note, a good manga I've gotten into is Dendrobates. Think the Punisher, escept set in Japan. And just a warning, this is a very graphic series, and I'm not talking about nudity (though there is a little). |

Relatively bored, and haven't posted here in a while, so thought I might do a quick write up of what I've been watching "recently"... (Of those I can remember enough, that is) Bakemonogatari [8/10]* - Currently watching this, and while only a few episodes in, I find it a very good show. I mean, it IS practically only dialog, but coupled with the animation and likable characters, it still keeps you interested. Kore wa Zombie desu ka? [8/10] - I found this show absolutely hilarious. Seriously, I probably wouldn't have cared if this didn't have a real plot (I mean, the one it has is very weak...), as the dialog, characters and overall humor more than makes it worth watching. UN-GO [7/10] - Also a decent show... However, I guess I expected something a bit better. From reading about it, you'd think this is some Sherlock-esque series, about a super detective and his partner solving crimes.. and well, it kinda is. It's an episodic anime, meaning every episode is more standalone from the others, so to speak, with a small side story tying them all together. However, it's pretty short (only 11 episodes), and one thing that bothered me AT FIRST, was how they would solve the crimes in a very... "Shounen show" way... (referring to those times when the good guys fight the bad guys, then no matter how difficult it is, they use their bullshit power to win). See, the MC's partner in UN-GO is a sort of demon, named Inga, who eats souls. Because the MC thinks this is wrong, he tells her that she can eat the suspects souls by revealing the truth (this is explained more in-depth). So basically, she can make any one person answer a single question, and the bigger the truth, the bigger the soul she gets. So at first, this is how almost all crimes are solved (tho the MC has to tell her who, and what to ask, so still some detectivity going on), but it changes a bit in... Asura [8/10] - A movie that takes place in feudal(?) Japan, where a child is born into a world of starvation, struggles & horror. When even his mother tries to kill him just to have a meal for the day, he eventually turns into this animal-like being, set to kill everything and everyone needed in order to survive. The story is about his travels through Japan, and his encounters with other people as he develops as a human being. Very good movie, with a somewhat weird artstyle. Little Witch Academia [7/10] - A 26 minute movie (or so). One of 3/4 movies which won some kind of amateur animation contest. It's about a school for witches, and this one witch who wants to be like a (in)famous witch who everyone else thinks is just a fraud, and illusionist performer. It's a cute little movie, but again, very short. Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica [10/10] - OMG. This series... I was quite aware this was supposed to be a "dark" series in some way, and so even at first, where it is quite slow and not much at all happens, I sat through it. It's not that the beginning is bad or anything, it's just the fact that not a lot happens, and it's mostly cute girls talking... But then things begin to pick up, and as more things are revealed, you will certainly get more interested in this "deconstruction" of the Mahou Shoujo genre. The later episodes (the ones that focus on Homura), I found really good, and the ending was just fantastic to me. The animation, done by SHAFT, is quite... experimental, at the least... On one hand, you have the "magical girl" parts which seem to consist of pieced together paper cut-outs, while on the other hand, the "normal" scenes are just gorgeous (and remind me a lot of BRS' art, even tho it's not the same studio). I know there are 3 movies (3rd is released soon, I think), where the first two are revamped recaps of the series, moving at a faster pace, with improved animation, sound, and some new scenes. Then the 3rd movie is supposed to be a sequel to the series. Unfortunately, I've yet to find the movies anywhere (neither online, or physical copies in Sweden), so I guess I'll have to wait for yet another while to see these... Also have 220 shows/movies on my plan to watch list, so I should probably get on with it... Edited by savepoints, Jun 3 2013, 07:55 AM.

Been watching Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi, a rom-com which loosely parodies famous fairy tales, fables, etc (e.g. Little Red Riding Hood, the Tortoise and the Hare). Along with this, it has some references to other animes like Zero no Tsukaima and Railgun. I'm usually not a big fan of parodies because they tend to be episodic series with no general plot. But Ookami-san has one, as weak as it may be, which mostly focused on the relationship between the two protagonists. The male lead is scopophobic (fear of being stared at) which kinda makes him act like a wuss. But as the series goes on, he gets his moments of manliness which mostly occur when there's no one around. What I like about him is that he's got a deep badass voice when he's all manly and shit, and he has a sort of high pitched kid's voice when he's in public. The female lead is not all that original. She is the standard tsundere who looks tough on the outside but is soft on the inside. Personnally I don't necessarily mind that, cause I like tsunderes. However, she is pretty strong and kicks people's asses. I can't say much else about her cause spoilers. There is a narrator (voice actress of Kuroko from Railgun). Let's be honest, the narrator's only purpose is purely comedic. Although she gives a bit of background on the characters and all from time to time, most of the times, her narration consists of witty remarks and cheap puns. I don't necessarily hate her, cause she does say some funny stuff, but sometimes, she's just annoying, as she talks at the same time as the characters, making it harder to read the subtitles and follow conversations. There are other characters of course... but I'm too lazy to talk about all of them... Overall, they're pretty good. Some of them are sort of original, others are kinda standard but are interesting enough. I think what I like the most about this series is that it is pretty light-hearted. It focuses mainly on the comedy. But as it turns out, some characters have a pretty dark background. It makes a good contrast (fun fact, the narrator tends to shut up when shit gets darker). Other than that, the plot is not all that amazing. It is mostly based on the male lead learning about the female lead's past and shit. It's not necessarily bad, but not fantastic either. The art is alright. Not much to say about it. The animation is smooth and the background rather detailed. The character designs are pretty good. All in all, it's not the best, but its comedy is worth a watch in my opinion. I like it enough. |

Like Savepoints, I also watched Magica Madoka recently. Like him, I thought it was amazing. Great characters, good plot, and art that is absolutely perfect at setting the mood. And yeah, the labyrinths were really cool looking. |

OK, I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND RANT HERE CUZ I'M PISSED. Earlier today, me and Zyan were talking (once again) about how he doesn't like the way the BRS series was executed, and this time he also mentioned that he didn't like all the "real life bullshit", so I told him "Oh, you should totally watch the OVA then, cuz you seem like the type of person who prefer the OVA to the series", and he was like "K, I'll do that". But then I got bored, so I thought to myself, "Oh fuck it, I might aswell rewatch the OVA too", and so I did. Important to note here is that first of all, I saw the series for the first time before I saw the OVA, and secondly, I've always seen the OVA as slightly worse (as opposed to everyone else, apparently). So, I knew ofcourse that this would be a more "compact" series of events, seeing as it's only 1h long, as opposed to 3h, like the series... Anyway, this is basically how it went, SPOILERS WILL FOLLOW. Spoiler: click to toggle I seriously just don't see why people think this is in any way better than the series... I also thought I'd come up with a little pro-con list... Pros: + Mato better character design + Yomi's not a bitch for dumb reasons Cons: - Yomi worse design - Severe lack of BRS - Strange unexplained magic shit - half the show is a fucking montage - Yuu is only there to force a single event to happen - Story proceeds in pretty dumb ways - Anti-climatic - WTF IS THAT ENDING?! I'm sure I could come up with a lot more (for both sides), but I think you get the point... Fuck this OVA. Fuck Rakounsha. Fuck Yuu. I'm out.

So, just finished watching Nyan Koi!. I thought it was pretty good, and really funny, but kinda felt a bit disappointed by the ending... Basically, the show is about Kousaka Junpei, who one day angers some cat deity, and becomes cursed. The curse says that he will turn into a cat if he does not fulfill 100 requests from cats. He can also not tell anybody about the curse (or misfortune will befall them aswell, and the curse will speed up for him), and the real problem here is that he is very allergic to cats, so once he turns into one, he'll pretty much die from his allergy... While this is like an "overlying" (or underlying, idk) plot, the episodes are more about Kousaka and his friends doing things, or him trying to impress on the girl he likes, with some "cat helping" parts thrown in here and there. As I said, I found the show really funny, and it kinda reminded me of Koreha in terms of it's comedy, tho this is probably more because I found Koreha absolutely hilarious, since that focus more on... "perverted comedy", while Nyan Koi! really doesn't have a lot (if any) of that. I also found the ending kinda disappointing, because it doesn't really give any conclusion whatsoever... All in all, pretty good, and really funny. 8 / 10. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changing the subject a little bit... Two of my favorite characters from the show were 2 twins (Kotone & Akari Kirishima), and because of the fact that they didn't really get that much screen time and all until rather late, I was kinda left wanting more of something similar... SO... Now, I'm basically looking for something involving Mahou Shoujo tsunderes (twin tails optional). Changing the subject yet again, I kept having this weird feeling while watching this series, because it felt like I had totally seen it before (but there's really no way I can tell for real). The thing is, this happens to me with a lot of anime series, but it's weird cuz some of them are way too new for me to have seen before (Like Wolf Children), and the fact that before a year ago or something, I didn't really watch anime at all (I had seen Pokemon and Sailor Moon at some point, but I wasn't really a fan of TV..), and I doubt I just watched and forgot about all these series during that summer break when I got into anime... |

Might as well tell you then, since this was a big reason I also wanted to watch the series... Even though EGOIST has a somewhat big role in the story, you shouldn't go in expecting a lot of singing or anything at all... Basically, most songs from EGOIST you've heard are used as OP's (Everlasting Guilty Crown / My Dearest) or ED's (Departures), with the only song being actually sung in the actual series is Euterpe, and I think one other song at some point... So yea... Then again, totally decent series still, and the other ED is sung by Koeda! <3 Edited by savepoints, Jun 10 2013, 01:34 PM.

Well, then I guess it will be ok... I mean, I went in almost solely because I wanted to see EGOIST, so I guess I was kinda disappointed about that, but again, still a decent series overall (second part better than first, imo). Also, I'm a dumbass. "My Dearest" is also sung by Koeda... |

Finished episode four of Guilty Crown, loving it so far. We'll see if my opinions change in later episodes or not. Edit: Episode 7, done, liking the show more and more. Hmm. Edited by Zyan, Jun 10 2013, 07:19 PM.
