Yea, there are a few things that really need explanation from the previous season, but it'll probably be explained later (at least the Art thing will, for sure). Also, just noticed something which I thought was kinda weird. Sailor Moon Crystal will be 26 episodes (as opposed to the original which was like, what, 60 something?), but it'll still air over a year, so we're only getting an episode every other week... --------------------------------- Zankyou no Terror - First Impressions - (8/10): Yet another great first episode. I think they did a pretty good job at setting up most of the important characters, and what the story and/or overall tone will be like. Let's just say, if it continues to handle the terrorism and characters in a good way, without it becoming stupid because of way too common reasons, this can turn out really good. --------------------------------- I was also totally prepared to type something along the lines of "and Glasslip continues being shit", but I'm really confused at this point... I'm not saying it got better, in fact, I'm not sure if it did or not... It's episode 2, and we're at like the peak of the romance drama, and they pulled this supernatural twist (which in itself seems pretty shit and out of place, tbh)... I'll just keep it at 6 and give it one more episode... Dat Ghoul censor tho (no spoiler... I mean, you can't really see anything anyway..) Spoiler: click to toggle

Well, Zankyou no Terror WAS directed by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop, so I expect it to be pretty solid. I like the direction Tokyo Ghoul is going. Set up a really standard "Hey, these guys are evil!" and then deconstructed it with "Hey, these guys are just trying to live normal lives!" Blue Spring Ride looks like your standard Romance show, with a few twists. Looking okay. Fate/Kaleid 2wei is looking promising, as the first season was. Added a twist on at the end of the first episode, curious to see where they're going to take it. I'm just hoping for battle sequences like the first season's. If that happens, I'll be really happy. |

Majimoji Rurumo. Oh joy, another series with the highly cliched "pervy main protagonist that's good at heart, but still perverted!" The only difference is, between this and others, is that by using magic, he's using up his life force. And you can bet that there'll be a deus ex machina at the end of this series (anime or manga) so that he doesn't die. |

Glasslip. Oh joy, a love triangle with a broody teenager. It wasn't enjoyable in Legend of Korra, a much better show by all acounts, so why is it almost constantly rehashed in these kinds of shows? The whole look and see into the future thing is kind of interesting, but most of the drama is centered around a broody, jealous, high school male. I didn't like high school drama bullshit back in high school, WHY do people assume we want to see it rehashed over and over? I give this show one more episode. If it stuffs the drama BS into the background and focuses more on the future thing, I may keep watching it. Otherwise, I'm dropping this like a sack of bricks. |

Week Two impressions! SAOII pulling out the action. Animated beautifully, I really like what they're doing with it. Really excited to see when Kirito shows up, because it won't just be "pew pew shooting guns" at each other anymore. Aldnoah.Zero pulling out the CGI... like crazy. Pretty sure half of this episode was CGI alone, since they use it for every single mecha. I know it bothers a lot of people when they use CGI to this extent, and it'll probably be one of the main turn-offs of the series. I think it's tolerable, and the show is still looking decent to me. Also, I don't like how they're basically a pub stomp with super overpowered mechas. We'll just have to see what direction the show goes. TL;DR SAOII looking great, Aldnoah.Zero looking great except for the mechas. Edited by Zyan, Jul 12 2014, 12:36 PM.

Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? The exclamation point and question mark suit it all too well. Had me going "What the hell?" "Wait, what!?" "HUH!?" Especially that second half. We have a ghost haunting the MC's apartment, a "magical girl" who is a total ditz, a busty "earth" girl (means she's has big tits and comes from an underground civilization), an alien with a complex about her bust size (or lack thereof), and the landlady who is the same age as the MC that everyone else is afraid of. The ghost wants the apartment to herself, the mole girl (suits her better than "earth") wants it to erect a shrine to invade the surface world, the magical world wants to keep it out of evil's hands (whoever that maybe), the alien girl is supposed to get the MC to bow to her, and the landlady just wants her property not destroyed. So yeah, a pretty hectic first episode. |

Tokyo ESP - First Impressions - (7/10): Damn, really intense first episode. We get a feel for the overall tone and what the story will be like, and got to see quite a few esper powers. This seems like a show that can turn out pretty dark if it wants to, but at the same time, I think the main character (if the dude with the glasses is actually the MC) could very well bring it down a bit single-handedly, since he's such a standard "shounen hero". --------------------------------- |

Hi guys, This is probably off-topic and better off in the spam thread but I was wondering. Do you guys get a visit from the anime-con spirit sometimes? Is there much demand for anime-cons in yer neck of the woods? If you think I'm better off having this as a whole new thread in this section please let me know. Have a great week!

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. First 2 episodes are hilarious! Straight up comedy/school life series. Need a good laugh, check it out. Also, Legend of Korra Season 3 episodes 4 and 5 came out Friday (in english) and let's just say I liked the main villain with the hair and beard. Also: Spoiler: click to toggle

Anything anime related is welcome in this part of the forum! However, the only anime-con I know of is the anime expo in the US (can't remember where it is, exactly), and seeing how anime isn't really all too big here, I'm not getting any of that.
What other language would it be in? >_> Anyway, actually liking book 3 so far, and it's kinda nice that we're getting 2 episodes each week now (even though that means it'll be over much faster). Will be interesting to see if Zaheer and is crew actually have some deeper goals than just "kill the avatar". |

The biggest here is probably Japan Expo in Paris every July (usually the first week). Though, afaik, Japan Expo is more about the pop culture of Japan in general than just manga. I don't know, I've never been there. It got like 230k visitors this year, which on the scale of France is quite a lot, and it's been getting more popular each year (I think they got like 40k more visitors this year compared to last year), which is not all that surprising since France is the biggest market of manga in Europe. There was a bit of history between Japan and France in terms of cultural exchanges in the late 90s - early 2000s, cause Chirac (president before Sarkozy) was a Japanophile. So there are several other conventions each year throughout France, like Japan Expo Sud which is every March in Marseille I think and probably the second biggest, but they are pretty tame compared to Japan Expo. Other than that, we got Comic Con', which is like the American Comic-Con, but with a different weird spelling and a bigger focus on French and Belgian comics since afaik those are pretty much unknown in the US. I'm not sure just how big manga is at that convention though, cause I've never been there either >.> Edited by Tiennou, Jul 14 2014, 05:26 PM.

There's a yearly anime-con in my part of the world. I've only gone once but I found it was a greater source of snark than anything else. My sister's more dedicated to anime than I am. She went last year and this year. Then there's the Central Canada Comic Con which is much larger and broader. |

Finished watching Monogatari Series: Second Season. Pretty much all of the arcs were pretty good, but I especially liked the 2nd and 4th arc, because Shinobu is just that good, and at the same time, the first arc was probably my least favorite, cuz the cat is just not as interesting to me as a lot of other things in this series. I also felt like what's probably one of the biggest revelations in the entire franchise didn't really get to me as much as I would've maybe wanted it to, possibly because I already knew about it beforehand, or maybe because I'm not as emotionally engaged in some parts of the series. It still got to me, don't get me wrong, but not in such a way that it could've, so to speak. All in all, I give it a 9/10 (and no, as Tien pointed out to me earlier, this doesn't mean I think s2 and Bake are equally good, it's just that I base my scores on MAL, which has too few increments between scores to show a difference. In reality, s2 is higher rated than Bake for me, but they're both still 9's, and both not really reaching up into my 10-tier). |
