I like how reading Oedipus Rex in a class last semester actually helps with things I watch. Namely Clannad and Zankyou no Terror. I actually understand a lot of the references they are giving with it. |

Getting back into anime after spending the last two weeks wrecking scrubs in DS2. Feels good. Akame ga Kill - Episode 3 Impressions - (8/10): Definitely enjoying this. It's got a good cast, as well as funny interactions between the characters, and I particularly like the route they took with the MC. He's not a total wuss, but at the same time he's not that crazy "I kill because I like it"-type, which can possibly make for some very interesting things to happen in the later stages of the show. Couple all of this with the pretty cool fighting they've got going on, and you've got a pretty good action series. --------------------------------- Aldnoah.Zero - Episode 3 Impressions - (8/10): So far, this is one of the few mecha anime I actually enjoy, and I sure as hell hope it's able to remain this good. The biggest thing for me is probably that it seems to avoid so many of the standard pitfalls of the genre (and the shounen genre overall). One of the best examples is how the MC doesn't win against the trained top-military Marsians because his willpower and friendship is stronger, but because he's smart, and utilizes the environment to his advantage. Throw in yet another good cast of characters, and the music (which there's no doubt is composed by the same guy who worked on Guilty Crown), and it's actually a really good series. Looking forward to seeing more of what Slaine will do once he gets enough, and how the story overall will progress. --------------------------------- Barakamon - Episode 3 Impressions - (8/10): Damn, I love this show. The character interactions, which it relies so heavily on, are very well done, and it does a very good job of conveying the feeling that this island town is a really close and caring community. I also tend to be a huge fan of the visual "aid" used for the sake of comedy, so that's a big plus. --------------------------------- |

I do worry that there will be a dip in quality for Aldnoah Zero after episode 3. The first three episodes were written by series creator, Gen Urobuchi. The rest of the series will be written by Takayama (screenplay writer for Mirai Nikki) is taking over for episode 4 onward. He's good but few can be on the same level as Gen Urobuchi. However, between Takayama and the director, Ei Aoki (director of Fate/Zero) I doubt it'll ever slip into the standard mecha or shounen story. |

Huh, I didn't know that. That's actually pretty interesting (any idea on why Urobuchi isn't writing all the episode?). However, I've seen episode 4 as well, and I didn't notice any major differences, tho I guess that, if anything, they'll appear later on. Also, there's the fact that it's only gonna be 12 episodes long, so even if there's a slight dip, it probably won't have time to turn to shit, like some longer shows. DRAMAtical Murder - Dropped @ Episode 3 - (4/10): I seriously can't tell if this is supposed to be cool, and edgy with its shitty psychological tropes, because the way I see it, it's just stupid. Everything from the characters personalities, to the character designs, to the poorly written "story", and even Rhyme now that we got to see a bit more of it. It also seems to be absolutely ridden with dumb clichés, so I'm flat out dropping this on the spot. --------------------------------- |

Some news on Legend of Korra. Nickelodeon, in their "infinite wisdom" decided to stop airing episodes on TV and move it to the internet because it wasn't getting good ratings on the crap time slot they "gave" it. So, don't bother looking for it Friday night on TV. It'll air online. |

Yeah, Nick really messed up with Korra. Gave it a crap timeslot, refused to advertise it, and just seemed like they wanted it to fail. But hey, at least we have more Spongebob reruns to look forward to. Ugh. |

I only caught onto Korra because I would check about once a week on the wiki to see when the new season would begin. That was the only way I found out about it. And Doug Walker (better known as the Nostalgia Critic) brought up a good point in his latest Korra V-log. Nickelodeon needs their own version of Adult Swim, that way they can air shows like Korra in it's own timeslot without it being awkwardly inserted between shows for small children. |

So, there's a magical girl manga that is rumored to become an anime. Sound familiar right? Well, no so in the case of Mahou Shoujo Ore. The major features of the storyline are as follows:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/08/02-1/meet-mangas-muscular-male-mahou-shoujo I'll definitely read that at some point and I really want it to become an anime. |

With every new episode of Sailor Moon, there's a new series of oddities and mistakes shown in its animation. Like these: https://31.media.tumblr.com/69c9192c5ac35cc078f4d83388ccd3da/tumblr_inline_n9qnrgbrsQ1rpf0sr.png and http://i.imgur.com/sZnkfYl.jpg Toei never seems to clean up the shots and always have issues with the eyes. Despite having extra time with the episodes thanks to the every other week schedule, they feel rushed and a bit sloppy. It almost feels like Toei is treating Sailor Moon as a little side project instead of a major franchise. |

Re:_Hamatora - Episode 3 Impressions - (8/10): To be honest, I think they've pretty much fixed everything from the first season. It's much better paced, with the "main story" getting started right away, especially. We're also seeing a lot more minimums, and I believe Art can turn out to be just as good of an antagonist as Moral was. One thing that does bother me though is the recaps. I hate recaps in general, but at least they had the decency to do it in a somewhat better way now. --------------------------------- Sword Art Online II - Episode 3 Impressions - (7/10): To be honest, there really isn't much to say about this, that couldn't have been said after the first episode, because almost nothing has happened. However, I do like the focus on Shinon, and her past, so that's cool. --------------------------------- Speaking of improvements on earlier seasons, Book 3 of Korra may be the best one so far. I don't know if it's just me, but it feels a lot closer to A:TLA, and the Red Lotus is one of the best antagonists in the entire franchise so far. Edited by savepoints, Aug 6 2014, 02:30 PM.

Barakamon- Was expecting more of a relaxed series, but this series is turning out to be a real pleasure! Great comedy, diverse characters, an overarching plot, and great comedy throughout! 8.5/10. Hamatora- Definitely Japan's version of X-Men, with characters that are actually more than 1 dimensional (occasionally a protagonist might be more than 1 dimensional), but for nearly an entire cast to have depth to it? It's a nice change of pace. Curious to why Art wants to off Nice though. He has yet to explain that. 8/10 Legend of Korra- Awesome! All the traveling, battling, and character interaction without awkward scenes (well, ones that are actually funny), along with introducing new characters including villains that want to create Anarchy (spoiler, sorry) WITH the help of the Avatar, plus throwing in the return of Airbenders, and even new forms of bending (lava bending) is making this season incredible! This is what happens when you give the creators time to make things work (though the sudden airing was a stupid thing to do). 9.5/10 |
