Legend of Korra season finale. Wow. Just, wow.
Spoiler: click to toggle

All in all, this series started "slow", as in little happening but a return to the traveling that ATLA was famous for, but the last several episodes took the series to a whole new level not seen before. And season 4 is to take a look at the Fire Nation.
I give this series a 9.9/10. A great season!

I like to start with the manga, and Legend of Korra doesn't come as a manga. :(

Well, it's not Japanese. It's American made, as is Avatar the Last Airbender. So, why would they have manga? Avatar the Last Airbender has some comics out that continue after the 3rd season, but that's it.

Ok wow, holy shit. Just watched the season finale of Korra, and... Just, wow. Not only did they take a huge step up in terms of quality this season, compared to the previous two, but they've also taken such a huge step up in terms of the maturity of the series. I mean, even the first two seasons of Korra weren't really that less childish than A:TLA. Sure, they have a lot of darker stuff, but it's nothing at all, compared to season 3. And the ending! Can't wait for season 4, because at this point, what they do in terms of character development and such can be incredibly good.

All in all, this season was just crazy good, and imho, I'd say that if not for the previous two seasons, Korra would seriously rival A:TLA with this season alone. It also had one of the greatest fighting scenes in the entirety of the franchise, up there with Crossroads of Destiny, Last Agni Kai, and Aang vs Ozai.

@Wry: Like ACDC said, Korra isn't anime in the "chinese cartoon" sense, only in the "animation" sense. While it borrows HEAVILY from your typical japanese anime and tropes, it still somehow manages to retain a subtle "western" feeling, so to speak. LoK itself is also a sequel to A:TLA, which was an original work (cuz manga adaptions aren't really a thing in the west), so it has no source material to read.

There are however several comics for ATLA (don't know about LoK), but most of them are spin-off stories, or don't add anything of value at all, except acting as fanservice and comedy. Then there's the "Promise Trilogy", which is a collection of 3 stories (The Promise, The Search, and The Rift. 3 parts each), which continues the ending of A:TLA, and details certain events leading up to LoK.

so ya... But I'd still highly recommend watching this, for real. A:TLA as a series is probably best compared to FMA, where as LoK kinda takes a slightly different approach at first. The thing is, however, that A:TLA is very much a children's show on the surface. Looking deeper at it, so to speak, you'll see some pretty dark stuff, and the closer you get to the ending of it (essentially all of book 3), it'll get a lot more mature, but the original feeling is still there. Korra immediately has a sort of more mature feeling, but this last season was just crazy, really.

Also, this video...

Watched the newest Space Dandy just now and wow. Just fucking wow that was good. That whole episode was an existential crises in animated form. Despite being the darkest episode by far (debatable, I know consider other episodes included death and genocide as well), it still kept a somewhat cheerful tone throughout. This was like Watanabe showing how to have serious moments without completely destroying the tone of a comedy series.

Oh, I remember reading about that possibly getting an anime adaptation a loooong time ago, so it's great to finally have at least a year for it to air.

There is one thing about this tho... Apparently, this is a lot more of a romcom set in the Haruhi universe, basically, featuring Nagato as the main character. I don't know if they completely take out all the supernatural stuff, or just change it up to be less important, so to speak, but the main problem I have is that there's probably gonna have to be changes to Nagato's character. Nagato is seriously one of my favorite characters, and it's partly cuz I like the quiet/lone wolf-esque/secretly badass characters like her, but that obviously doesn't work in a rom-com, and from what I've seen from the manga, it seems more like Nagato is gonna be pretty much your standard anime girl.

So... Here's to hoping...

For a half-second I thought it was Ouran-related but then I clicked the link and figured things out. An Ouran spinoff might be neat.

Dat cliffhanger, indeed, but to be honest... I mean, we're 8 episodes in, so just that kinda spoils what will happen... What I kinda want to happen/expect is

Not really a spoiler but w/e

Ok, so we've now got 3 weeks to go until the 1-cour shows from summer season ends, meaning fall season is almost upon us. Thus, my question to y'all today is:

What shows are you excited about for the coming season?
(Pretty much the final chart can be found here, or on AniCharts website.)

My post about this is probably going to be a bit lengthy, as always, so bear with me...
---------------------------------

The hype is real for:

Log Horizon 2nd Season: Obviously. I mean, first season was absolutely great, and this time we're bound to get a lot more story progress, since the world-building and all of that has already been dealt with, more or less. As long as they keep up the quality of the first season, then this can't possibly fail.

Psycho-Pass 2: I mean, for real. Psycho-Pass being one of my favorite shows ever (prob somewhere around or in my top 5), it's pretty awesome to get a continuation of it. Of course, there's that feeling that it won't be as good, because it may not have the same style or, well, rather the same feel as the first season, since a lot of things obviously has to change between the seasons. Apparently Urobuchi isn't writing the script either, but I'm expecting amazing things from this nonetheless!

Shows I'm somewhat excited for:

Donten ni Warau: Ok, yes, this is a shoujo, which is pretty much my only gripe with this atm, because shoujo doesn't really have the best track record in my book (not saying there aren't any good ones tho, Sabagebu is a very good example from this season). The synopsis interests me, the manga is highly rated, and the art is apparently pretty damn amazing, so hopefully it lives up to the hype people have built up around it, and it doesn't succumb to shoujo pitfalls.

Grisaia no Kajitsu: I admit, when I first read the synopsis, it sounded so generic to me. Boy enters all-girl school, and probably builds a harem and shit. But no, the psychological tag on this is actually pretty real, it seems. I've seen stuff from the manga depicting pretty gory stuff, which could be really good, or really bad, depending on how it's executed.

Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de: It's like the premise of KokoroCo, but with an x-men type twist to it (everyone have unique powers), which I totally love, and finally it's made by Trigger. I mean, if you're anything like me, I don't see how this couldn't excite you even a little bit!

Parasyte: Seriously. Madhouse adapting a really popular manga, and one which actually seems really cool as well. If Reddit has built hype around any one show from this season, it's definitely this one, and needless to say, it's hard to not catch on to it. From what I've heard, though, they've kinda changed a few things, which might turn out weird, but the PVs look absolutely incredible, so expecting good stuff from this!

Shows that seem ok / that I expect to be pretty mediocre but that I'll probably watch anyway:

Akatsuki no Yona: Action-comedy with a decent synopsis. Shoujo, though, with a romance tag, so could be total shit for all I know. But seriously, if that doesn't fuck it up, I think they could do some good stuff with a premise like this.

Amagi Brilliant Park: KyoAni being moe. I mean, what else could you really say about it? Well, the thing is that the premise of it (they gotta attract visitors) could keep it from being just standard SOL-stuff with cute girls doing cute things, and from what I've seen from the PVs, the cast seems pretty varied, almost in a Chu2 kind of way.

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo: Synopsis sounds interesting, and even tho it's not officially tagged as such (on MAL), I'm pretty sure this is semi-mecha focused, which can obviously go downhill really quickly. Still, if the story takes a more seinen approach to the story, it could be very good.

Denki-gai no Honya-san: Seinen comedy. The seinen tag is pretty much the biggest reason I'm watching this. Could be really funny with less generic jokes and such, or it could be littered with sex jokes and fanservice, who knows?

Garo: Honoo no Kokuin: The synopsis makes it sound like a really generic shounen tale of some boy becoming a hero and whatnot. Not saying that in itself makes it bad, but I mean, you're not gonna top something like Madoka or PP with something like that...

Gugure! Kokkuri-san: Premise sounds cool, I guess. Could be pretty funny, and it could also be very endearing, so to speak, almost in a Barakamon type of way. If that's the case, then oh my god am I actually excited for this.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis: Ok, so I read the synopsis for this, and thought it seemed cool. Then I read somewhere else that it was indeed pretty cool. So that's cool and all. But then there's the fact that it's ECCHI HAREM. I mean, these two do not mix well! We'll really have to see about this one...

Nanatsu no Taizai: Actually, whenever I look at the cover for this, I kind of feel like I hate the art (or well, character designs)... They just look so... Shounen (as in long-running shit shounen) to me... Maybe it'll be decent enough, or maybe I'll just drop it at 3 episodes...

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji: Shoujo rom-com (not tagged romance, but I mean, come on). I'm not even sure why I keep taking gambles on these ones, but here I am, once again...

Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu.:There's one reason, and one reason alone I would even consider watching this. The premise makes it sound absolutely hilarious. No matter how serious it takes itself, there's no escaping that.

Orenchi no Furo Jijou: Could be pretty funny, for all I know, or could be really awkward and really shounen-ai-esque what with the shoujo mermaid in the dudes bathtub... God damn, I'm way too judgemental against shoujo, I think...

Sanzoku no Musume Ronja: So, this is actually sort of a big one, but there's a good reason it's down here in this group. This is a really popular tale in Sweden, and as such I've grown up with the live-action movie adaption of this, which to be honest, is actually pretty decent. Along comes Ghibli (and not like Spirited Away Ghibli, either), and wants to make a series on this. Ok, cool. But the animation. Holy shit, it hurts me to watch the CGI stuff in this, and it doesn't help that EVERYTHING is made with CGI. From what we've been able to see in the PVs, it doesn't really seem to follow the movie or original tale either, but rather a more carefree SOL approach, which I guess in itself is pretty shit when it comes to this...

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: I think this one could actually be really good. The romance aspect of it could be really good if it's done in a careful way, for lack of better words. It could also be total shit if the girl character is an obnoxious little twat and it has a ton of forced drama. So yeah...

Sora no Method: So little info on this, but I like the art, and the synopsis kinda makes you wonder, y'know...

Terra Formars: Horror anime seems to be really hit-or-miss, to be honest. Hopefully this is the former, as people seem to like the manga, and apparently it's a lot more seinen-y than shounen, so that's good. Here's to hoping!

Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete: The synopsis is just so... Mysterious... But I mean, if it's not fantasy or anything, then it's kinda meh, I guess, because then it just seems like a pretty standard rom-com, with a more vivid color palette.

World Trigger: Could be a pretty cool action series, or it could be total shit. Nothing else to really say here...

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Seems more or less like a "cute girls do cute things" type of series, but the "twist" they have could maybe make it worth watching, I don't know, really...
---------------------------------

So yea, all in all, if I don't drop any of these (to be honest though, I kinda expect to drop quite a few after actually typing this up, especially the further down the list I came), then I'll have like 24 shows to watch... Almost feel like I'm overdoing this, but I just found it so much harder to watch stuff when it's not airing now, since then I actually have to decide for it myself, so to speak...
