S;G is definitely all about getting over that first part of it (I mean, even if you like that stuff, it's got nothing on the later half of the show).

While we're on the topic of older shows (and you not being online, Zyan), does Fate/Prototype spoil F/SN in any way? I mean, I've already spoiled like all of the biggest things in F/SN for myself, so in that regard, I guess I don't really care, but if there aren't things I haven't spoiled, and F/P does, then y'know...

Nevermind, I watched it, and it's such a clusterfuck that even if there were spoilers, I wouldn't have known. 6/10 for some cool ideas at least.

Finished some older shows during down time on vacation, lez go:

Katanagatari: Final impressions (8/10)

I will say, I did enjoy this show a lot. It did A LOT of things well, especially the interaction of the two main characters. The simplistic art style was nice, and there really was no point I'd call myself bored. Sadly, the last two episodes were... out there. This would be rated higher if it was taken in a different direction, it left too much of a bitter taste in my mouth. Worth at least one watch, but don't expect it to be a perfect masterpiece.

Steins;Gate: Final impressions (10/10) and OVA/movie impressions (9/10)

Now I've been putting off Steins;Gate for... two years. Mostly because I CANNOT handle cringe worthy material in shows. But after powering through the first six episodes or so, I finally started to see the true colors of the show. There were no really stupid time travel theories, as things made as much sense as they could, and the characters were everything but boring. I see why Kurisu has a special place in everyone's hearts, as they probably gave her the best show out of any female character in any show I've ever seen. The OVA was lighthearted and expanded on future events, and the movie was basically the Disappearance of Okabe Rintarou, but did an amazing job of showing Okabe's perspective through the entire show from another person's eyes. Overall, I'd say I love this show a lot more, and it deserves all the respect it gets.
Yeah. Katanagatari is pretty good. The ending, I can see why it went that route, but I agree that it should have been different. If you want another good, and a bit weird, series, check out Utowarerumono. Weird, and you may need to use the wiki to really figure the full extent of the story, but I think you would like it. That is, if war anime series are okay with you.

For those of you who haven't watched RoosterTeeth's RWBY, here's CrunchyRoll's review list for it. Averaged 4 out of 5 stars.

RWBY is a nice little show. It's not amazing, it won't blow you away, or anything like that. It's a largely standard shonen style show with some pretty likable characters. If you like shows that blend some action moments with a lot of slice of life stuff, then it's worth checking out.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis - Final Impressions - (8/10):
This turned out to be really good, and I'm glad I decided to pick it up. It's funny because it doesn't take itself all too seriously, but manages to draw you in, and stay exciting anyway. It has some really good characters, great music, and awesome usage of CGI (most of the time). If I had to say anything bad about it, it'd be that the mythology in the series is all fucked up, since they seem to mix a lot of different ones. If you want a good action/comedy series, then this is definitely a good one.

Inou Battle (7/10)

This anime really lost steam about halfway through. I really liked the setup, average people getting super powers without a big bad to fight and having to deal with them. There's a lot of directions you can take that, both comedic and serious. I can even get behind the fairy war idea that was brought up in it, since there's a lot of cool storylines you can make out of that, especially when it comes to dealing with the ethical implications of it. Give this to the right writer, the fairy idea or the original setup to take in any direction they want, and they could create a fantastic story out of it.

To be fair, when this show had its good moments, they were really good. For example, they really drove the point home about how keeping the powers a secret and really drive a wedge between them and their normal friends, and Chifuyu struggling the way she did trying to keep her best friend was handled very well.

However the harem content just killed it for me. Eventually the majority of the show was just about how everyone and their mother loved Andou because he's just such a nice guy and says the right things when he isn't in his own little fantasy world. Andou is a better than average lead for a harem anime, but jebus, they treated him like he could do no wrong and entire episodes were devoted to how much the girls wuv him. It just stopped being interesting.

The potential for greatness but it ended up being an above average harem anime, and I wouldn't fault someone for giving it a 6 or 6.5. I only gave it a 7 for the times it did do something to live up to that potential, and for the performance of the voice actors. It wasn't straight up bad and I'm not sorry I watched up, it just ended up being a disappointment.

I think the problem most people have with it comes down to the fact that they decided to focus on the SOL part more than the superpower part, which meant that it was pretty lacking, since it was a pretty standard shounen. Like you said, it could've been so much more. Personally, my biggest gripe with the harem part isn't that they put too much focus on it (although that kinda sucks as well, of course), but the fact that it's an ambiguous ending (nobody wins). I mean, in my opinion this, and harem endings (everybody wins) are the worst possible ways to end a series like that. I'd much rather the "wrong" girl wins, or they all die or some shit like that, just as long as there's some sort of conclusion.

Also, regarding the superpower stuff, I read something some time ago, and while I don't think it makes the ending any better, it was pretty interesting. I don't remember exactly what it said, but it was someone comparing it to how The Big Lebowski plays out. In the same way the people in that movie acts like nothing really happened, in a way, so should people who watch Inou-Battle (kinda). Like, the title and all references their "daily lives", and how supernatural abilities becomes "commonplace". Even with all the other shit going on, the main cast just try to keep living their lives as usual, and that's why it would "make sense" that they just dop everything like that. Of course, like I said, I personally don't think this makes it any better, it's just an interesting way to view it. Mostly I think it doesn't get any better, because the fairy war shit isn't even anything the main cast even knows about, so there's no reason to even bring it up, except to show the viewers.

And so winter season begins...

Yuri Yuma Arashi - First Impressions -(6/10):
What. The. Fuck? I mean... Let's recap what we've got here. There is yuri, there are bears, and there are yuri bears. On top of that, like 90% of everything that was shown was basically blatant symbolism. Then again, this is the same director as Utena and Penguindrum, so I guess that isn't all too weird, and it's the only reason I'm giving this series the benefit of the doubt as for now. If this doesn't step its game up by episode 3, then I'll most definitely drop it.
---------------------------------

Also watched Pale Cocoon. It presents some interesting questions and themes, and I definitely think this could've been really good had it been a full-length series, but as a single-episode OVA, this didn't do much for me. 6/10.

In addition, started watching Durarara, so that I can watch s2 weekly, and I don't know if it's because I "know" beforehand that this is a good show, or if it's just that good, but already after the first episode, I have that feeling that this is gonna be really, really good.

For the winter season, I'm mainly looking forward to Death Parade, Assassination Classroom, and Aldnoah.Zero are the only ones that I'm really interested in. Rolling Girls and Yuro no Yatterman sound like they have potential.

I really have no interest in any of the shows other than Tokyo Ghoul (which I still haven't finished season one of) or Aldnoah.Zero 2, except for continuations. I'll keep my out open for any stand out shows, though.

I'd suggest watching Death Billiards, since it's like a 20 minute OVA, and Death Parade is more or less just gonna be a full-length series of that. So you'll probably get a good idea of whether you'd want to watch that or not.

Kantai Collection - First Impressions - (7/10):
First thing that got my attention here was definitely the art. It had very nice, slick art in general, and for the most part it also had very good CGI (although there were a few places where it was definitely just 'off'). Hard to say much about the story or anything at this point, other than it looks like the battles could be very cool. One of the only complaints I have (and it's more of a nitpick) is that even though I've never played, or watched the game, I could instantly tell when they ripped a "one-liner" from the game during battles. Most of the time it just felt pretty out of place, and I hope that not all battles are gonna be filled with those.

Ah, one of those series. I think it'll finish with a resounding "eh". Not terrible, but nothing really special either. That's how such things usually go, unless they bomb hard.

I watched all five episodes the third part of Black Lagoon, Roberta's Blood Trail, yesterday. Just, wow that was fucking dark. Even by Black Lagoon standards, that was extremely dark. But it was also superb in its telling of how each of the major characters essential fell to the dark side, especially with Roberta herself and her complete psychotic breakdown. To me, this improved upon what was already a great series.
