At least there's some hope, after seeing Bahamut last season, though. I mean, that was based on a card game, and the series was very good, but yeah, I still don't really have all too high hopes for KanColle. Huh, I'd completely forgotten about the third season since WAD was put on hiatus. Should probably make an effort to watch that, since it's not too long iirc. Tokyo Ghoul √A - First Impressions - (8/10): It's back, and as good as ever! Not only are we going to get an entire season of badass Kaneki, but it seems like there will be a lot less censoring as well (this episode had next to none). My only complain here is actually about the OP and ED. Compared to Unravel, this OP is just plain bad, and if anything it actually sounds more like an ED than anything else. The actual ED here is pretty good though, but the OP is such a definite skip each and every time. Still though, Aogiri hype! --------------------------------- |

Junketsu no Maria: Well, this is an interesting premise. A witch in medieval France during the 100 Years War (after Joan of Arc) stops battles in a rather flashy fashion. Like summoning a dragon to split the two sides up. So far, it is a pretty interesting show. 8/10 for the 1st episode. |

The biggest reason for me not watching this is that the description of it, together with the ecchi tag (at least I'm 99% sure it's tagged ecchi) makes it seem like it can be really weird... Basically, as you may or may not guess from the title (junketsu means something along the lines of pure or innocent), she allegedly only has her powers while she remains "pure", and so apparently the enemies are sent after her to rob her of that purity. In other words, she must remain a virgin to keep her powers. EDIT: Adding on to this, it's even seinen, which is even worse when it comes to ecchi most of the time. With that wording I guess you mean just that, and not "lemme know once they get further in so I can watch shit" (so just guesswork at the moment...)... In any case, I'm bored, as usual, so here's my list for you (removed some of the ones I'm actually watching, since I don't necessarily think they'll be anything outstanding). Sequels: (kind of a redundant thing to suggest, but w/e) Tokyo Ghoul √A - It's mostly gonna be anime original, although it'll still be written by the manga author. Basically, this entire season is gonna be a lot more badass overall, what with the ending of season 1. Aldnoah.Zero 2nd Season - Dat cliffhanger doe. Durarara!!x2 Shou - I mean, season one is so fucking good it's amazing. New Series: Death Parade - Again, this is pretty much gonna be a full-length version of Death Billiards, so I'd still recommend watching that first, and it'll give you a feeling of whether or not you'll like this. But I mean, this is Madhouse doing psychological anime, how much better does it get? Tsukimonogatari - It's monogatari. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom) - waiting for Kaw to find me a real good video of this that convinced me to add it. But I mean, just read the synopsis. |

I'm going to second Savepoints on Assassination Classroom being a possible standout for the season. Personally, I'm a sucker for anime, cartoons, movies, stories, etc that take an insane concept and play it straight. Part of the reason why I love Imaishi so much as a director, and the old actor Leslie Nielson (dude could say anything with a straight face and sounding like he really means it). So, the synopsis for Assassination Classroom really caught my attention. If they play it straight, this could be a great little series. |

Checked out KanColle, has a very Girls und Panzer vibe so far, which I like. The CGI they use isn't bad either. |

Koufuku Grafitti - First Impression - (7/10): That was... Not at all what I imagined. I thought it was going to be pretty much the girls cooking for basically the entire episodes, and them having various shenanigans while doing so, with a ton of head tilts and other SHAFT-like quirks. Instead, we got this SOL series, that uses cooking more as a central plot theme. However, I'm definitely not saying it's bad because of this, just that it wasn't what I had guessed from initial info on it. Once they introduce the rest of the main cast, it might turn out very enjoyable despite this, we'll see. If there's one thing I'd actually have to complain about, it's that some items rendered with CGI stood out a bit too much. Like, blatantly. Speaking of art, at least so far, this doesn't seem like a show you'd watch to see some good ol' SHAFT, because this seems much more like Hidamari Sketch-SHAFT, than Monogatari-SHAFT. In that entire episode, there was basically only one part where you could really feel that "there is no doubt this is SHAFT". --------------------------------- Ansatsu Kyoushitsu - First Impression - (8/10): Holy shit, this is so good. Reading the description of it makes it seem like a pretty whacky premise, but when actually watching it you'll notice that they really took this whole thing to the extreme, and they managed to pull it off. It's just a perfect mix of weirdness, humor, and a tiny bit of actually relevant character interactions. I think a lot of the enjoyment from this is not only gonna come from watching them come up with different ways to kill him, but also how the sub-story develops, as seen near the end of the first episode. There's definitely a lot of room for much more to take place, other than simply "comedic assassination attempts". Other things of note is that I found it has a very interesting art style. I can't quite put my finger on an accurate comparison, but it's definitely something else, and I think it fits very well. Finally, the ED was also really good, which was nice to wrap such a wonderful start up. --------------------------------- Edited by savepoints, Jan 9 2015, 08:41 PM.

Basically, at least in episode 1, it's a twist on the 100 Year War. Like with Temeraire series (novels), those take place during the Napoleonic Wars. But in that world, dragons not only exist, but are sentient and come in many varieties and cultures. And Junketsu, so far, is similar in that witches and magic exist in this world. Basiacally, alternate history. And things like this (not the conspiracy stuff) I find kind of interesting. So, I'll stick with it and see where it goes. |

Keep me updated then, I guess. Death Parade - First Impression - (8/10): Had sort of mixed feelings after this episode, but ultimately decided that it leaned more towards an 8 than a 7. See, the thing here is that I constantly compared the episode to Death Billiards, and in pretty much every aspect, the latter came out on top. However, I think it's important to note the difference between the series and OVA here. Death Billiards focus entirely on the story of those two, and since that is its sole focus, they can do much more with it (even in the same amount of time). Death Parade, on the other hand, seems like it's going to be focus a bit more on Queen Decim, using the games to tell that story, or simply weaving them into the episodes to create some of these really tense moments. The thing I'm mostly hoping for here is pretty much a conflicting match-up. This is something I think Death Billiards did very well, in that you might not have been certain who to root for until near the end. I also think some of this first couple's "revelations" that came up felt kind of rushed, like they were only included for the sake of being included, but were never added upon in any way. Still though, having high hopes for this nonetheless. --------------------------------- |

Just watched the first episode of Assassination Classroom, or Ansatsu Kyoushitsu if you prefer, and I'm just going to echo was Savepoints said, it was so damn good. As soon as I saw him dodging the bullets while doing roll call, I knew I was going to like this series. This has a good chance of being the best new series of the season. Oh and Save, to me the art is kinda like Akuma no Riddle's. Edited by Shadow Dragon, Jan 10 2015, 04:00 PM.

Hmm, guess so. I think the thick outlines they use kinda makes it look like you're constantly watching one of those "still frames" that you often see when there's a fight, and they're just about to clash, but then you get that "artsy" frame and it ends the episode or something. Like that, but moving, obviously. Aldnoah.Zero 2nd Season - First Impression - (7/10): Ok so, let's just get it out of the way. I would've preferred it if it didn't turn out like this. With that said, I'm not all too salty, seeing how they had a very good explanation for how it happened, but still a little bit disappointed. This, coupled with the fact that we currently really have nothing to hype over is my reason for giving it only a 7, but I'm confident it'll get a higher score as we get further into the series. In general, this season seems like it's gonna be pretty much "this OP character vs this OP character", which will be topped off with a huge shitstorm once certain characters meet again. Let's just hope this entire season just doesn't turn into a giant asspull. --------------------------------- |

Rolling Girls Okay, so the various districts of Tokyo are at "war" with eachother and the various gangs are composed mainly of what they call "Rest" (grunts or cannon fodder) and led by the "Best" (who seem to be superhuman somehow). And the various factions get into fist fights over areas of Tokyo and what not. It's over the top, cheesy, and reminds me a lot of Power Rangers. In that, while it does have people fight each other (though no real "evil", just factions), sometimes in various cheesy ways, no one gets any lasting damage aside from a bruise or something. They even make references to freaking Power Rangers. No ecchi stuff, yet anyways, just over the top action and comedy. 7.5 out of 10, and that's mainly because I'm like " What is going on here?" |
