Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu - First Impression - (6/10): I truly don't know what was up with this. I'd like to say that I didn't really have any expectations, but I probably did have some pretty high expectations deep down, after the awesomeness that was the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, but what I saw from this first episode was just a huge let down, to be honest. I was totally ready for the fact that they would've completely dropped the entire mystery/fantasy aspect of the original series, but what we end up with feels like they just took the characters and put them in various "funny sketches". There's no real purpose to anything, like the original series kinda had, and things just happen because. The changes made to Nagato (basically making her less of a dandere, or at least just a more vocal character) also feel incredibly off, and just make her feel like a weird, completely unfamiliar character. I'm gonna give this 3 episodes, but I'm not having high hopes after this... --------------------------------- |

Yeah, when I saw previews of it, I was turned off almost immediately by it. In short, they "moe-fied" her. Getting pretty tired of that. |

Supposedly this takes place in the Disappearance universe (hence the name), although altered a bit, since they actually don't know each other in that universe, but they do in this series. In this universe, they're all normal people basically, and I'm completely ok with that, but the worst part is definitely how they completely killed Nagato's character. Sure, I'm a bit biased I guess, since I have a huge soft spot for Kuudere's and to an extent Dandere's, but there's no denying that this show would've worked without such a radical change to Nagato's personality (same with Kyon, although his change wasn't as huge). I really do not need a moe version of the Haruhi cast, even if it has one of my favorite characters. Damn, this kinda upset me... Got a few more shows to start watching this season (Arslan Senki, Kekkai Sensen, Triage X, Punch Line, Ninja Slayer, and the new Grisaia (cuz why not)), but so far Nagato Yuki-chan has by far been the worst started of the entire season. |

Kekkai Sensen - First Impression - (8/10): This is shaping up to be a real good season for action shows, guys. While this started out kinda slow, the setting is very cool, and they gave a good amount of depth to it so early on. The MC is not a total pushover, we have Sawashiro Miyuki among the cast (although only as a minor role), and what we've seen of the fighting actually looks really awesome (it's reminiscent of styles such as Kill la Kill, imo, but not as over the top). There were also times during this episode where the animation was really, really well done, which was nice to see. Let's see if they can keep this all up for an entire season. --------------------------------- Arslan Senki - First Impression - (5/10): I'm not gonna say this was disappointing, since that implies I had any sort of expectations from this, but I will say that this was definitely not as good as it ought to have been. What we got is a setting, and a cast that's so bland and uninteresting, it's hard to even care about them possibly dying. The biggest fault here, though, is that the entire episode is spent on something that absolutely did not need to take up that much time. At the end of the episode, we get a 1-minute long segment, with narration and a timeskip, that tells us how now we're at the part where the story should've been like halfway through the episode. It's just so incredibly stupid. This one is high on the list of probable drops this season. --------------------------------- Edited by savepoints, Apr 5 2015, 06:09 PM.

Re-Kan! Well, that's an interesting twist to having ghosts. Think Paranorman in terms of the MC and how she perceives ghosts. Though she actually has friends who are accepting of her abilities. Overall, interesting and funny with a semi-jump scare near the beginning that, in hind sight, is actually pretty funny. And no random ecchi stuff for those of you who detest it. Accept comments from a cat (watch it to see what I mean). 8/10 so far. Loved the humor in it! |

Triage X Nurses/Students by day, vigilante assassins by night. Think a darker, grittier, and Japanese version of Charlie's Angels, and you'll have it. Despite the ecchi tag, it has quite a bit of action and actual plot and backstory. 7.5 out of 10. Kyoukai no Rinne Think a lighter and more comedic version of Bleach, and you won't be far off. No ecchi, and so far, no forced harem. Pretty funny too. 7/10 |

I originally had this on my list, and kept it even though it had the ecchi tag (people said it was supposed to be about as ecchi as Highschool of the Dead, so I thought it was ok). Yesterday I decided to just remove it though, after looking through the discussion thread on reddit. So much plot, like holy shit... I'm not doubting it might have some kind of actual story, but I think the visuals would just make it hard for me to watch, so... |

Kyoukai no Rinne - First Impression - (7/10): This was surprisingly good. I love how lighthearted it is, and how it doesn't take itself seriously, it's funny, and the art is nice. Rinne himself kind of gives me Noragami vibes, and at least throughout this episode, the "money" gag didn't get boring to me, so that's nice. --------------------------------- |

I just watched the first episode of it. I would have been completely okay with it being a pure slice of life, comedy series if they didn't destroy the characters' personalities. Cute, quiet, shy Yuki from the Disappearance movie with the smartass Kyon would have been good. But Kyon kinda lost his charm and comes off as pretty generic now and Yuki is just way too moe. |

Houkago no Pleiades - First Impression - (4/10): I'm astounded by how bad this was... What this turned out to be is a huge clusterfuck of incoherent ideas mashed into one show, really. The characters are so flat and uninteresting (and trying to force like 3 of those "backstory" talks on us in the very first episode, like wat), the actual story is so incoherent that even the characters say they have no idea what's going on, and half the episode was made entirely with god-awful CGI. How low of a budget went into making this series? Why do I still give Gainax a chance? So many questions... --------------------------------- |

Nisekoi: (Season 2) Episode 1 Impressions: Here we go again, the harem that actually isn't a harem with 0 plot progression has returned. And it's as amazing as usual. Keep it up Shaft, on point. Oregairu Season 2 Episode 2 Impressions: Basically the same set up as the first season, although I don't remember much of it honestly. Looks good so far. Unlimited Blade Works Season 2 Episode 1 Impressions: Jumping right into one of the most intense scenes of the Unlimited Blade Works route makes me happy, and sets us up for the rest of the show having a really serious tone with the exception of teenage angst, as expected. Definitely the show I'm looking forward to the most. I can't understand what my husband is saying season 2 Episode 2 Impressions: Cute and funny 3 minute clips are back at, making you aw multiple times within the span of it. Great for a quick thing to watch, and definitely looking as good as last season. Hibike! Euphonium Episode 1 Impressions: Oh man, finally not a season 2. Starts off slow, but looks really pretty. Kinda reminds me of K-On, but we'll see what direction the show goes. It's alright so far. |

Ore Monogatari!! A comedy with a guy whose best friend ends up getting all the girls, though the best friend turns them down, rather bluntly. And the 2 friends are pretty much polar opposite. 1 is a big and athletic guy, who although a bit slow on the uptake, has a heart of gold (though has no pity for gropers and what not). His best friend is the popular pretty boy at school whom all the girls confess too. But, despite this, being the polar opposite of his friend, and turning down one girl after another, he always has his friend at the forefront of what he does. In other words, true best friends. And then one day, on a train home from school, they spy a jerk groping a girl on the train. Gouda (the big guy) storms over, yanks the groper's arm away and subdues the groper until they can get to an officer. From there, the story takes place. There seems to be a love triangle, but it doesn't seem as ponderous as most end up being. Why? Because the 2 friends want to support the other for this girl. I give it an 8/10. Funny, sweet, and interesting characters. |
