These games featuring amazing offensive grandstanding just validate my earlier point that the Jets building a team from defense up is just a woeful strategy that will never work. You have to throw the ball, you have to have receivers who can break one and take the top off the defense, you need the fatties up front on the O-line. Defense is an after thought. All the defense has to do is not fuck it up. Denver scored 35 points, if the Denver secondary was competent, Denver's gonna be hosting the AFC championship next week. Denver's defense didn't have to be lights out, they just had to not fuck it up, and they fucked it up. Offense wins championships. Period. There's 12 teams that are in the playoffs every year, and most of them have good to elite level QB's and offense. DRAFT SOME PLAYMAKERS PLEASE. Edited by beastman721, Jan 13 2013, 10:10 AM.

Teams that won on Defense. Chicago Bears , Pittsburgh Steelers(this team is the latest), Baltimore Ravens There are more. But Offense is part of the game. You can have a good defense without having a good offense. The Jets need the running game though. To build their QBs. I think Sanchez did well with the running game helping him. If Ryan kept with the running game for more than two seasons they would have won more than the Confernce game. |

What else is new, Pats in the AFC title game. *sigh* Without fail, it's like clockwork at this point. They just seem to operate on a higher level than everybody else. Mercilessly, they hang 40 points on ANYBODY, even much-vaunted defenses. Aside from anomaly post-season losses to the Ravens in '09 and the Jets in '10 (yes that actually happened) they've been so dominant for over a decade now. I know they lost two Superbowls to the Giants, but those two games were so close, if they won those two games, they'd have the best continued strand of success in NFL history, which at this point, it's looking like no one can touch them, outside of maybe the 80s 49ers, and the 70s Steelers. Ugh, gonna be a rough couple of weeks. At least the Giants won't meet them in the Superbowl. God I hope the Ravens win next week. The misery of being a fan of this miserable franchise never ends. Its' amazing. Edited by beastman721, Jan 13 2013, 09:21 PM.

This may be the first time ever, well, at least for a long time, where we've gotten the exact same AFC championship game two years in a row. As long as the Ravens play like they did the last two weeks (minus the special teams mistakes), I really think they can and will win this. If the Ravens do win, then either NFC team they face will make for an interesting story. Ravens vs 49ers will of course have two brothers as head coaches going against each other for the championship. For the Ravens vs Atlanta match up, you have two first round quarterbacks that were taken the same year going against each other in the Superbowl. |

That was great to watch. Also, Flacco now has more road playoff wins than any other quarterback in history. |

So glad the Ravens won, I couldn't stomach another Pats Superbowl. Epic run, enjoy it, remember how it feels forever. |

Honestly, even though I'm happy the Pats lost, I'm kind of upset because the Ravens' run reminds me so much of the Jets in 2010. Obviously they lost in Pittsburgh, coming 1 game shy of the Superbowl, but they beat Manning and Brady on the road in back-to-back games. Sanchez and Flacco seem to be similar figures, both road warriors, both under disproportionately high criticism. One's flourished, and one's in the tank. The Jets let their offense stagnate, and Sanchez has hit rock bottom as a result. The Ravens added playmakers like Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones, reloaded on offense, and now they're in the Superbowl. The Jets ruined Mark Sanchez, who just two years ago was the best thing to happen to the franchise since Namath. It sucks, I'm pretty upset. Part of me hopes Sanchez can still be the guy. Those runs in '09 and '10 were the best playoff runs the Jets have ever had, and he was a huge part of those playoff wins. The 2012 Ravens and the 2010 Jets are similar teams. Only difference is, one defense showed up in an AFC Championship, the other didn't. Edited by beastman721, Jan 20 2013, 11:33 PM.
