Hey Toegoff and Mods,

I'm just gonna cut to the chase. We need some advertising for the forum. It's kinda stagnant right now and we need some new people to give it some life. We could make it interesting for new people by having community gamedays and stuff like that. All we need is for Toe to make a video or something mentioning this place cause I don't know if there has been a recent video that mentions the forum but a lot of people usually don't read a youtube profile page for links to stuff unless it's mentioned. This isn't a demand, it's a request. Thank you for any consideration.

Sincerely,
The Toegoff Forum Community

Seconded! Or I would, if my word carried any weight. I know Toe's a busy dude but surely there's something he can arrange with Sin and the moderators to get the forums back to their former glory. Maybe some co-op games or something. Idk, tbh.

I think a good idea would be to make a video, that'd first talk about the forums, letting others know it actually exist, and maybe even talk about some of the different things we've got going on here (Let's play section to discuss ongoing videos, or recommend new LP's; debate section, Gaming section to discuss games, post gaming-related news and set up any community game nights (if there were any) etc.)

After that, you could explain that one such community gaming event is going to take place at w/e time, and that there's currently a thread on the forums where you can suggest/vote for what game will be played (following up what Sam said earlier about a weekly poll for variety in games), and what times would work well etc.

Bringing some new, fresh blood into this place certainly won't hurt.

wonder if Toe could make like....this ending screen to his videos (like maybe just a simple black screen with the words "Visit us at <the forum>!") and put it after every video he uploads.....I dunno..is that hard to make? I've never made videos so I wouldnt know......

That would just be opening up a video editor, placing that screen at the end (if it's a picture or something), and re-rendering the video (or maybe you need to render anyway, so you do this and then render only once, as usual).

I don't know if he does any editing to his videos, off the top of my head I'd think not. But it's easily doable with something free like VirtualDub if you don't already own video editing software. I suppose that if you don't own it, you might not know how to use it either, and then it comes down to whether or not you want to spend the time figuring it out. Even if it likely would only take a few minutes to figure out the software; if it doesn't do what you want, that time could easily stretch to hours looking at other options. :S I've been there.

Most LPers record the mic with another software (I don't know why, since I've never really looked into making videos - maybe because of volume/quality issues ?). They edit the video to add the microphone track and sync them together, lower the sound of the video as well if need be. Then they can do other things for whatever reason, but it's not necessary (e.i. subtitles, random text, add facecam, explosions cause it's always cool or whatever). Then it's rendering time. Yay. Woo.

Also adding a small text at the center (or elsewhere) of a black screen is far from being complicated and takes about 30 seconds. Editing softwares in general aren't exactly difficult to handle to make little videos like LPs (albeit time-consuming in some cases. Not counting rendering...).

I'd say, in the case of LPs, the hardest part of editing is finding the optimal rendering settings - a good compromise between rendering time + uploading time and quality (but then I have a crappy PC and internet, so rendering time and uploading time skyrocket pretty quickly for me, so that may be why I find that hard).

Being able to edit the commentary without messing with the game audio and so on was the reason I (we) did it.

A bit late to the conversation but I've been keeping track of all that's been said on this topic; yes, even the posts in the Spam thread. I'm at Toe's right now for our annual summer vacation which is why neither Toe nor I aren't very active right now (though frankly Toe's not that active in any case).

I definitely agree that Toe needs to advertise this place more. The fact that we get a boost of members any time he even mentions this place shows how effective it is. But I know he has reservations about doing that because he has a kind of... disdain of people who go all out Youtube whoring and push their channel and social media. But I think he needs to get over that a bit if he wants the community to grow. As Dave said, it'd be kind of weird for me to be the one to advertise it since it IS a forum about Toegoff and his channel. He needs to decide on that himself.

As for the sections, Toe made up the sections, I'm just the one who puts them in. If you guys want changes, again, need Toe to chime in. I do have to agree that DnD started as a ambitious project but just died off and we really don't need it anymore. I'm not sure what you guys mean by wanting a place to organize the community games because that's what Gaming Social is for. I don't see a point in recreating it. It's just that no organization of any events are happening. If these plans all do get set into motion and Toe advertises and we get more people then we can use that forum for organizing events.

Addressing JSB's point about forum psychology: I happen to agree that spam moderation went a bit far in the early stages of these forums but that's because spam itself was that much more in need of moderation at the time... Like a thread about a forum functionality question got dragged into 12 pages due to going completely off topic including members making pointless posts to purposely make the thread longer and members just posting completely pointless posts to try to be the one with the most posts. I don't mind off topic conversation and a bit of spam now as long as it's actually in flow of the thread and it's actual conversation. Most of the stuff in the spam thread (and I still read almost every page) is completely fine coming out into other areas... other than gif wars that is. Though those are pretty amusing and I wouldn't mind gifs around and about the forums; just not two pages of it.

I will tell toe about this thread but since we are on vacation I wouldn't expect to see any action until late August.

Oh, my bad... It even says in the sub-title that it's for organizing these things... I think I was sort of confused/mislead because practically every thread there so far have only been like "post your [game] name".
(Although technically, wouldn't "Gaming Social" fit better in the "Game Forums" section?)

In any case, glad to see this is being looked into and such.

I understand why Toegoff's hesitant about raising the forums in his commentaries more often, but there is a difference between promotion and whoring. When he does chat up the forums we get a dozen new members. They post a couple of times - if that - and then never come back again. I'll admit I did some lurking before I started posting but I've been pretty blabbering non-stop from my first post.
I'd think a forum's regular visitors and posters are it's heart and soul. This forum's heart needs surgery and the soul needs some TLC, imo. Too many fora perish for lack of attention, and I really don't want this - the only real online community I care enough about - to suffer the same ignoble fate. Just my two pennies, fwiw. Thanks and have a good day everyone.
