My point was that their marketing focuses on console gamers more than on PC gamers.
And my point is that they're focusing on PC gamers just as much as they are on console gamers.

Half of the supposed "big deal" is that you can stream stuff from your PC (aka you already have a PC that you use for gaming) and that you can play your PC game with a PC-centric controller. They're trying to merge the 2 markets as much as they can.

On a completley different subject, I'm kinda worried that the company responsible for some of the most iconic PC shooters will now be working on making their games controller friendly 9even if that controller has 4 extra buttons, it still won't have the precision of the mouse).

So far, I'm only really interested in the controller. So I might pick that up for playing steam games and/or hacking purposes. As for the box itself, I already have a gaming PC connected to my television through HDMI. It's most prevalent purpose is when friends or family have game nights and we want to play a 1 player game together; sort of like a live lets play. As a secondary function it's useful for when our smart TV is feeling derpy and we still want to use Netflix or watch Youtube clips.
Buying the Steam box seems like a second layer of complication, especially when I don't really like steam anyway.

Which PC shooter are we talking about?

I mean, most of the big franchises already focus on controllers, more or less, and if we're talking something like Quake, then I promise you they'll probably never cater to the controller...

Half-life? TF2?

Oh... Didn't really think about those...

In any case, there's a reason the Legacy Mode is there, and I doubt Valve would just overlook that. But only time will tell.

I'm just worried they might come to the conclusion that the best way to push their controller is by making their games (all mouse-driven e.g. HL, DOTA2) work well on it.

There's not. However, these are only the beta prototypes which 300 steam users will get, and to qoute Valve:

And to be clear, this design is not meant to serve the needs of all of the tens of millions of Steam users. It may, however, be the kind of machine that a significant percentage of Steam users would actually want to purchase - those who want plenty of performance in a high-end living room package. Many others would opt for machines that have been more carefully designed to cost less, or to be tiny, or super quiet, and there will be Steam Machines that fit those descriptions.

To add on to it, buying those components (for the high-end one) separately, would cost you about $2000, so I'd assume it would cost a bit less than that. The "lower-end" ones seem to come out at about $600 - $800.

Woudn't cost you $2000 really, more like $1500 for the high-end one. I hope it costs less, otherwise it's kinda pointless.

Yea, you're not gonna play CS competitively with that controller, the amount of time he takes to properly aim is just too much and that's just the tutorial, targets aren't really moving. Civ 5 looked frustrating to play with the controller as well. And how you're supposed to read the tiny text when you're sitting on the couch in front of your TV is beyond me. The other games don't really require quick and precise movements, so that was ok.

This looks a lot like playing games with a touchpad - it's doable but not ideal. Was really hoping for something more innovative than that when they first announced the controller.
