plz omit snark snark about thread title if possible. but if you cant resist or something im not the one to stop you.

im surprised at how much im struggling (in my, so far, almost 1 hour google quest) to find a nice place to just really discuss games. then i thot about my ol buddy toe's board, & how the people there are pretty knowledgeable & whatnot, so i figured id give this a shot.

if it helps at all, im mostly interested in first person shooters of all stripes, but i also play & adore some of the really mainstream rpgs (mass effect, dragon age, the witcher). erm...some third person actiony stuff. my taste at the moment is pretty narrow, i guess is what im trying to say, which is fine by me. just wondering if anyone here knows of some good discussion boards, either dedicated to those typeso f games or just gaming/pc gaming in general? im really not clued in at all about the gaming community. if there is one. or whatever.

I'd say your best bet is the forums for the games you enjoy. You'll probably find like-minded people there and discuss that particualar game as well as titles of a similar type/genre.

I really agree with Reptile on this one. Game-specific forumboards will most likely give the best results (tho I doubt many of them really discuss similar games), but it might be somewhat of a drag to go on so many different boards, instead of having one for all genres, and so on.

Personally, I don't know of any boards based around discussing different games (I'd tell you to google, but seems you already covered that part), so all I can offer is something like gaming-related subreddits. /r/games is a bit more accepting of what you post (but maybe not of your opinions), and then there's /r/truegaming which is all about the "serious discussions", tho it's very strict on the things posted.
I also believe there's some subreddit that's like a "bookclub" for gamers, but I can't remember what it's called... Just stay away from /r/gaming, if you don't know it, or haven't been on reddit before.

EDIT: Found it. http://www.reddit.com/r/GameSociety
EDIT 2: I also just found out about this, http://www.reddit.com/r/WhatAreYouPlaying

They usually have an Off Topic subforum where people can talk about random shit, including different games.

thanks a ton guys. i know OF reddit, but dont really get the discussion format as it doesnt apper to be traditional. ill get an account & try those links from SP as i acclimate.

i thought about the game-specific boards too, but eg the game blowing me away at the moment doesnt have a dedicated board outside of steam, & i also considered that im could end up with a stack of 20 forums to visit or something. but you make a great point abt the off topic gaming areas; if i find a one or two that might be a really good solution.

thanks again, this should be of great help!

Similar to game-specific forums is developer-specific forums. Like the Paradox Interactive Forums. Sometimes the two categories are one and the same but sometimes not.

thanks sin -- i thought of that, at least a bit, while i was questin around looking for dedicated game boards. bohemia has a =phenomenal= arma message board, but other than that..nuthin.

its so odd, to me. id think interactive game criticism no a scale from youtube to, say, steam forums, would have a fairly poppular higher tier. in fact im kinda sure of it...frustrating.

Please, call me Dave. <3

The one thing to remember when you're on reddit is "don't be a bitch about your karma". Some people (and somtimes entire subreddits) will stick to the hivemind so bad, that you'll get downvoted to oblivion if you go against it just for the sake of creating discussion (this is less prominent in the more "serious" subs, like Truegaming or I'd assume that discussion one).

So, if you really want discussions going you need to stop caring about your karma balance, and just keep posting (while not deleting your older posts which are getting -50 votes each minute).
