I Just Got Nommed

I don't know how many of you guys watched him, but I just received news that Justin Carmical, best known by his handle JewWario, died this past Thursday, January 23, 2014. I had spoken to him a few times in the past, and he always made me feel special, like he was the big brother I never had. He even used a suggestion I made in his show. He was always awesome to talk to, and for those who actually got a chance to meet him found him to be a warm, funny, fun loving guy. This is what was posted by his wife on Facebook a few days later;
From what I read up on this, what caused it was financial stress combined with prior issues with depression. He lost his previous job and his youtube channel wasn't picking up the financial slack. He was also looking to make a movie, and he refused to use the funds that his fans gave him to pay his bills, because, according to him, "those funds were given to him for the movie, not for my personal use." Combine this with previous issues with depression and you've got a volatile where the man would feel like he had no hope. Now, from outsiders, there were no indications that he had this darkness deep inside him. Any time you would see him at conventions or anything he posted online or any other appearances he made in public, he was always happy, playful and making sure everyone was having a good time. He even helped another former TGWTG contributor, Sarah Wilson, AKA Pushing Up Roses, was even helped by Justin to pick herself back after her OWN bout with suicidal thoughts. This is a shining example of why we need to take care of our own mental health. If something's wrong SEEK HELP. If you feel like there's no hope, SEEK HELP. The sun always rises on a new day, and each new day gives you new opportunities to make things better. And I'll leave you guys with a few websites on suicide prevention and how to cope with the loss you feel with if suicide took someone you care about. http://www.allianceofhope.org/ http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ http://www.helpguide.org/mental/suicide_prevention.htm http://www.afsp.org/ Just take care of yourselves, ladies and gents. |

I read about it on retrowaretv. I sent his widow a message through the email address he had for his website, asking if I could send flowers and a card to the funeral home when the time comes. I hope she checks it, but if anyone has a facebook account, here's her page, in case you want to offer your condolences and find out when the funeral will be. JewWario's Widow's Facebook page |

Here's the link to the fundraiser for Justin's family; http://www.gofundme.com/6groao So far, they have made far past the $4500 dollars of their $850 dollar goal. Since the whole thing was caused by financial difficulties, the more money we can send Jenny's way, the better. And yes, I know, bad form for the double post. But I think this is important. |

He flat out said in a livestream that the money he got for his movie was for his movie; that he wasn't going to spend money people gave him on anything but the product they gave him the money for. I will never understand why, since I know the fans would have understood if he had. Besides, this tragedy got me into educating people about suicide awareness and prevention. So something came of this tragedy. |

I was going to post something when I first heard about it, but I wasn't sure if it would even really be relevant to you guys. I've been following the TGWTG affiliates for many years and I used to watch You Can Play This frequently. He will be sorely missed. |

Terrible, terrible news. I remember how funny he was in tgwtg's "suburban knights", he did an amazing impersination of david bowie from labyrinth, awful to hear. Regarding the topic of suicide, I saw a very moving vid from boogie2988, I'll post it later, on the train right now. Anyway, boogie tells some personal stories about his bout with depression, and his attempt on his own life. I can't say I've ever suffered from serious depression, but my life was a mess two years ago when I couldn't afford to go back to college and spent nearly a year working odd jobs: mowing lawns, heck I even did full on construction jobs for my neighbor. I was nearing the end of my tether emotionally, deeming myself a failure and my life a wash. That same year, I got a job offer working in a real estate office, and haven't looked back since. Hell, my life ain't perfect, but its a lot better than it was two years ago. Sometimes, just when you feel like its darkest, the light is closer than ever. I know that sounds generic and maybe even a little stupid, but life does get better, as long as you can stay positive. It pains me to think of what Mr. Carmichal could have been if he just held on a little longer. My sincerest condolences to his wife and loved ones. Always remember, the human spirit is the strongest thing ever, no matter what the circumstances, you can overcome it, you just have to believe in yourself. My condolences to his family. It's a shame he had to commit such an atrocious act, considering the selfishness involved. What, his family is left to clean up the mess... Regardless, I'm sure he was a genuinely great guy, I guess the mountain just fell too steep and wounds didn't heal. Rest in peace. I just wish people would treasure their life more greatly. You can think about death all you want, but have you ever considered the chances that you were ever born, and what a privilege life is? |

I can't imagine what his wife must be going through right now. When you think about it, she was on the other side of the door and heard the gunshot.... I just can't stop thinking of how awful that must have been. God damn.

Well, it's going to the widow now, and she can do what she pleases with the money. And I know his fans have no problems with that; what else is it going to be used for after all? Additionally, the fundraiser for her is now over $13,000 dollars and climbing. It's nice to see people come together and help those in need. And seriously? Bad form giving him shit over this. He may have taken a permanent solution to temporary problems, but it is disrespectful at this point to do that. Maybe later, but not now. Edited by Hitokiri Akins, Jan 29 2014, 09:25 AM.
