![]() Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage ← → Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Previous Discussion Next Discussion It appears to me that the second season of this series is basically the same as something like Fate/Zero's second season, in that there's no real brake between the seasons and the story picks up pretty much directly where the first season left off. I did not know this when I put the series up for voting, so the discussion still only applies to the first season (first 13 episodes). Edited by savepoints, Mar 1 2014, 06:09 AM.

Heh, sort of forgot about this thread... So, discussions like these are the result of whoever suggesting the show (me, in this case), having no idea what the show will actually be like. Whenever I read about this show, I was lead to believe that it would more or less be a survival game (a la Mirai Nikki, Btoom, Battle Royale), but that wasn't really it... Instead, you have all the contestants work together to score points, by eliminating... whatever it is they're supposed to eliminate... To help do this, they get guns which seem to only fire 1 out of 10 times, and a plugsuit that enhances physical abilities. Score enough points, and you can win some great prices (including the greatest of them all, in their case). Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, too bad. Because it's far from great. For reference, we decided to apply the 3-episode-rule here (me and Zyan have watched the same amount), since that's a pretty basic thing when watching anime. If it's that bad after 3 episodes, then in most cases it probably isn't worth watching (there are ofcourse exceptions to this rule, and you need to decide if you really think it's bad or just a bit slow). After 3 episodes of Gantz, you're left more confused than when you start off, and you more or less feel the need to rethink your life... Those 3 episodes are just filled with incredibly weird, unexplained stuff, and that comes from someone who's watched A LOT of nonsensical stuff (Ergo Proxy, FLCL, even Nekojirosou made more sense than this). The story barely moves at all (in fact, 80% of the story in those 3 episodes are purely flashbacks, and often the same flashbacks), and most of the characters seemed pretty cliché. Because it's apparently supposed to be a very good show, and I've finished a lot of bad shows already, I have put it on hold for now, and may (or may not) pick it up again at a later time... |
