So, after a really long time of not watching this, I finally put this on hold. I watched the first 10 episodes (so almost half the series), and to me, it just feels a bit like they're trying to beat the horror into you, so to speak. Like, I get the whole story-thing with the timelines and the murders and all, but it just feels like such a weird thing to do, since it more or less takes away from the scary parts, imo (especially since some of the characters change between the jumps).

Another thing that got to me was how EVERY time they reset, they basically go through the exact same explanations for the murders and the curse and everything, and at some point, you've got to realize that it'll become annoying to sit through.

Still, I don't think it's bad enough to be dropped like it is, but seeing how I haven't watched a ton of anime lately, it's now on hold for me.

I had the exact same issue with you, but I made through with it and went on with the second season (Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai), which was far superior to the first in my opinion. It's much less forcibly gory and it does explain everything that goes on in the first season. I would advise you to push forward, to the second season, even though overall it's far from perfect.

Id also advise you to continue. The first season is more or less a prelude. The final eps of the first season are the turning point in the plot and guide in the events of season 2 that wrap up all loose ends.

So I basically have to sit through 26 episodes of the same shit, so that they can explain what's going on in a whole new season? Seems kinda dumb to me, but oh well... I did only put it on hold, so I'll try to pick it up some time when I don't really have anything better to watch, but we'll really have to see about this one...

Quite honestly the first season really only comes down to the first and last couple of episodes.

The rest is not really relevant to the plot. Its the second season that picks up the pace.

Yep, I disliked that too. I had no idea why I decided to watch the second season knowing the first had been a chore. Either way, what I found most enjoyable wasn't the explanation of the events, but the antagonist. I don't have many memories though XD.

Thats probabbly because you dotn see the antagonist until the very end. Its all so cryptic that you never really know who it is, so your suspision jumps round from person to person so much that it makes the real antagonist kinda unnoticeable.
