Most of you probably already know that cable giants like Comcast and Verizon are currently lobbying to end net neutrality, which means they'll start making people pay up for 'fast lanes' on the internet, and anyone who can't afford it is left in the dust. Considering how these cable companies are so warm and cozy with everyone in Washington D.C., there's a very good chance this will follow through. Industries like Netflix, Etsy, Reddit, and Tumblr are all voicing their disagreement with the concept. You can learn more about it here: https://www.battleforthenet.com/ The FCC has already stated they'll make a decision by the end of the year. |

Yeah, if they decide to end net neutrality it will be the death of the internet as we know it, as those who do shell out with tons of cash to the cables will just overshadow those who don't, such as new and fresh sites who will just suffocate in their craddles.

Another reason why Comcast deserves a 'golden poo' award. Meanwhile, the hacking community will get their revenge in some really nasty way if the companies get their way. Just my pennies' worth of nonsense. |

Just for more context, this is an idea of what we'll be facing:![]() Lesser known websites will be limited and suffocate as a result |

TL;DR: Net Neutrality is the idea that all internet data, no matter the creator or origin, should be treated equally. There are laws that says exactly this, but the US congress (I think, at least it's something high up in the US) is debating a change in this law, which would allow ISPs to drastically slow, or even block any part of the internet they desire, and then charge extra for costumers to access these. The "Battle For the Internet" was a call to action from the people, where hundreds of thousands of people chimed in to do all they could, and even large websites like Netflix took a stand against this. While this is currently a US issue, there's no doubt that it'll have ripple effects, and it will in turn affect the rest of the world. John Oliver brought it up in a more comedic way. This site does a very good job at explaining the very basics of net neutrality and what this law change will mean. https://www.battleforthenet.com/ has a bunch of other links to help you understand, as well as other useful things. |
