Arrogance; A very negative trait in a duelist

Yesterday, I went to the TCGPlayer.com Forums and recommended a few changes to a Zombie deck. A person who didn't even post the deck came back at me with a Netspeak response clearly intended to discredit and embarass me. I'm completely dumbfounded by people like that.

Why get defensive and rude over a deck that's not even yours? Why become so set in your ways that you refuse to consider any changes but those recommended by yourself useful? Why act so pigheaded and arrogant toward someone who was trying to be helpful?

I think I'll post the incoherent response here:
"ok so you want [the deck's creator] to take the zombie`s out of his "zombie" deck and replace them with giant rats i couldent see myself doing that not in a million years if i did i wouldent add three i`d add 2 your "personal experiance" is not with a true zombie deck if you want him to take out his beatstick zombies and i on the other hand run my defencive bone towers nope just wouldent do it"

First of all, I only recommended adding one Giant Rat (to search out Pyramid Turtles), and you really DON'T need 1800-atk 4-stars in a Zombie deck. Mine runs 100x better with Spirit Reapers, Sangan, and Giant Rat than it did with Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower and 2x Regenerating Mummies.

But I don't need to justify my changes. The fact that this person got so worked up over some suggested changes (that I wasn't even suggesting for his deck!) means that justification is lost on him.

My point is that you should avoid becoming like this person. After you've won a few tournaments and beaten all your friends, it's probably easy to turn into something like the arrogant person above. Don't, and your dueling prowess can only improve -- other people have good ideas, too!

Plus, you'll make more friends.

Yes, one should always be open and up to new ideas even if their stragety seems full proof.
For as you stated everyone has some good ideas every once and a while. Now, this doesn't mean that you have to take the suggestions to heart, but just listen openly. You never know ho helpful the ideas could be.
Don't get over confident no matter what. This may sometimes lead to many mistakes that are made during a duel and it may lead to a real nasty attitude problem. So just have fun and be friendly and open to others. Confidence is always welcome, but don't get too confident and arrogant.
I will kill anyone who dares stand in my way of world conquest! *ehem* I mean, if I am opposed you shall indeed regret it!

How about not at all. problem is ppl sometimes don't recognize the diff b/w confidence and arrogance. of course, if ur good, you're going to have confidence in urself and ur deck. but when u start thinking u know everything and, even worse, advertising it, then u've stepped over into arrogance. and, from what i've seen, these ppl are very quickly hated, ignored, and (ironically) considered less of, like here.

Yah, they are unpleasant people to be around almost 100% of the time.
Just have confidence in yourself and your deck, don't overstep the boundaries.

hold on here... it seems to me that (as a group) u have become arrogant yourselves. look at the topic starter for example...

Quote:

Mine runs 100x better with Spirit Reapers...

is this not arrogance??

arrogance is not a bad "emotion" in it self. Whats wrong in believing that u r better than somebody at something that u believe urself to be good at?? i'm a good duelist (not 2 brag, which i don't condone), so i believe that i can beat any duelist that i face. this is a good way to think isn't it? that u always have a chance?? when you have lost confindence in your self, then you have lost the duel. As for the difference between self confindence and arrogance, arrogance is speaking of it. if i think i can beat u, i'm gonna say so.

being arrogant does not mean that u always think ur better though. even though i'm arrogant, i'm always waiting for help on any of my decks.

and to defend kaiba, Kaiba is only portreyed as an Antagonist b/c the Victors write history

that was quite profound, kyp.....
I regrettably must say, i was like thast once.... i had beaten every duelist, worked my way to the top. man, i was invincible. or at least that's what i thought. and i seemed to do a much better job of advertising it then i thought. soon enough, i had lost all my friends and people started challegning me (in public places, no less) so tey could be "the best" i eventually took a dive at a local tournament, sold all my ards and started all over again as a duelist reborn.
....that was a joke up above

.....ok no it wasn't.

.....Got you again.

......or did I

that is actually the truth, durron, and i would appreciate it if you did not insult my honor, as i take it quite seriously. i WAS once one of the best of the best, locally, anyway... but that doesn't mean you get to insult me in such a serious way as to question my honor! i realy hoped i could be friends with you, durron, after this silly rivalry cleared up... so i'll be the bigger man and extend the hand of friendship 1 last time.... just don't think that means ill go easy on you at the tournament! anyhoo, what do you say? friends?

so u don't want people to question your honor, but u took a dive?? that is not honorable, no matter what.

I don't think my statement is arrogant. In my personal experience, Spirit Reapers really do run a lot better than Regenerating Mummies and/or Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower, and saying so in response to an attack on my rate/fix isn't the same as saying "You're completely wrong and I know more than you, so even though I haven't playtested your type of deck, make your deck a carbon copy of mine!" or something similar, which would be arrogant.
