There are currently four Monarchs: Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch, Mobius the Frost Monarch, Granmarg the Rock Monarch, and Zaborg the Thunder Monarch. These four cards all have identical stats (2400/1000) and are all one-tribute monsters. Each Monarch has a different effect. Thestalos makes your opponent randomly discard from his/her hand and, if that card is a monster, inflicts minimal burn damage. Mobius destroys up to 2 M/Ts on the field and is the most commonly played. Granmarg, the least commonly played, destroys a face-down card on the field. Unlike the others, Zaborg is Level 5 and destroys a monster on the field. Mobius is definitely the best of the Monarchs, followed by Zaborg (because he can be morphed into Dark Balter). Thestalos is third best, and Granmarg is the worst. My Monarch Deck would run Mobius, Zaborg, and Thestalos, along with a The Uberly-Broken J-Word. I'd also run three Spirit Reapers as tribute fodder (since the Monarchs only get their effects if tribute summoned). The Monarchs don't need their own deck to excel, however. Mobius is an ALO staple and side-board material in other decks (to deal with burn), Zaborg is a good general-purpose tribute monster because of his Morphability, and Thestalos is great for decks centered around wiping out your opponent's hand. Granmarg could be run in a Rock or Earth deck. Give the Monarchs a try! If you don't have a The Uberly-Broken J-Word, then try running Mobius in his place, for example. They're powerful monsters with good Special Effects. |

a couple of things here vamp (and RFS for agreeing) 1) yes Mobius is the best, but not my that much. he can easily lose 1/2 or more of his effect to the likes of waboku, MST, Dust Tornado, Ring, Bottomless, Torrential Tribute, Solemn Judgement, or even CEDivice 2) In the current Meta, Thestalos is better than Zaborg, since Control decks are common, losing a card from ur hand hurts more than losing a monster. Here is a sample monarch deck. this one completely destroys RFS' burn deck Monsters:19 3|Sod|Mobius the Frost Monarch 2|Rds|Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch 2|Pgd|Don Zaloog 3|Mrd|Cannon Soldier 1|Tp2|Morphing Jar 1|Mrd|Sangan 1|Mfc|Breaker The Magical Warrior 1|Mfc|Tribe-Infecting Virus 1|Lod|Exiled Force 2|Lod|Marauding Captain 2|Ct1|Blade Knight Magic:14 3|Sdy|Soul Exchange 1|Mrl|Snatch Steal 2|Ast|Enemy Controller 2|Sdj|Scapegoat 2|Ioc|Stray Lambs 1|Mrd|Heavy Storm 1|Mrl|Mystical Space Typhoon 1|Db1|Pot of Greed 1|Sdp|Graceful Charity Traps:7 1|Psv|Call Of The Haunted 1|Tp4|Royal Decree 1|Lon|Torrential Tribute 1|Pgd|Ring of Destruction 3|Psv|Dust Tornado |

i agree with kyp on the monarchs, fire is the better of them, though each has a strength. yes, frost does the most on field damage, but it also is the most limited on the damage in can do. zaborg is a good way to zap a monster, granting him solid power. he can also be morphed for some great cards, and is light, making him the only of the four monarchs that can slip into a chaos deck the rock monarch seems the worst at first...but ANY face down card? it can get traps....magic....mons....you can use a book of the moon or the likes to flip the opponent's mon into defense before killing it. not the most powerful, but among the most versatile. and lastly the firestorm monarch: he kills the hand. that is...insanly powerful. we've all been there. playing our last card, having nothin in our hands, feeling defenseless...it's horrible. thus why a solid hand destruction deck is so over powering, it keeps the opponent on the edge. i'm building and posting my hand destruction deck as we speak. |

Well.....it looks like everything has been said here.....um, the Monarchs are cool indeed and do come in handy a lot. I agree with K10's and Kyp's staements on these beasts. |

In a deck that doesn't run Metamorphosis, Thestalos is much better than Zaborg. They're about tied, really, in a deck with Metamorph, which is why I'd run both. |

w/ metamorphosis, Thestalos is still better. with ur hatred towards J inzo, can't u see that Ryu Shenshi can be just as devastating as Balter?? |

Balter is better than Senshi in many situations. He can negate flip effects and Spells, which IMO is even more important than negating Traps and Spells. |

Thest. is almost always better then Zaborg. I think Zaborg is the worst of them. I would use Mobius over him anytime. |

In a Monarch Deck you might want to even try running Ultimate Offering or Monster Gate to help summon them quicker. I don't know though, I've never tried it. |
