Making Use of Mechanical Monsters Machines are a fearsome lot Machines are some of the most powerful monsters in the metagame. With the introduction of Ancient Gear Golem and Ancient Gear Beast in The Lost Millennium, they’ve gained even more might. However, my opinion is that the true power of machines lies in some of the older cards -- Blowback Dragon, Jinzo, Fusilier Dragon, Mechanicalchaser, etc. There are also so many ways to make a machine deck. Here are just a few potential builds: *Standard: Use Jinzo and Blowback Dragon to control the board, with Mechanicalchasers as beatsticks. *XYZ: This deck is centered around XYZ Dragon Cannon and its parts. *Ancient Gear: This deck features Ancient Gear Golem and Ancient Gear Beast, adding in support cards for them like Brain Control to help summon these powerful creatures. I’m going to stick with Standard, because I think it has the most raw power. I’ll be building an XYZ deck in my next article anyway, though, and an Ancient Gear deck in my article after that because I think both of those decks are powerful, too. Our Machine deck will of course include a copy of Jinzo. Jinzo is probably the most powerful machine ever created. His trap-negating ability, lack of restrictions on his summoning, and great attack overshadow the rest. A close second is Blowback Dragon. Though he doesn’t have quite as much attack power as his big brother Barrel Dragon, he has a decent 2300 atk and the ability to destroy monsters, spells, and traps on the field with his ability. Next up will be three copies of Mechanicalchaser and X-Head Cannon. These two monsters are 1850 and 1800 beatsticks respectively. 2 copies of both Cannon Soldier will work well with our 2 copies of Scapegoat. Let’s not forget our 2 Fusilier Dragons and our Reflect Bounder. Fusilier Dragon will be abused by our 3 Book of Moons, and Reflect Bounder will do some very good burn damage if your opponent is foolish enough to attack it. A copy each of Magician of Faith, Cyber Jar, Tribe-Infecting Virus, and Sangan round out our monster line-up. If you can’t get your hands on any Mechanicalchasers, I recommend running two additional Reflect Bounders and a Tsukuyomi. Three Limiter Removals are the only significant spells in our line-up that I haven’t already mentioned -- the rest are all pretty standard. That leaves us with 5 slots -- I picked the Big 4 and a Bottomless Trap Hole to fill them. Check out this machine deck in the Deck Discussion forum! You can easily find it via my stickied deck gallery. |
