Okay, it's always been an aspiration of mine to buy a booster box. And now I've done it! I went on ebay and found a buy-it-now 24-pack Dark Revelation booster box for $45 including shipping, so how could I refuse? I just placed the order, and the box should arrive soon. The point of this multiple-part article is to educate readers on how to go about finding cheap booster boxes, the best way to get good cards and profit out of your booster box, and how to determine which set you should buy. PEOPLE ON EBAY SELL AT STUPID PRICES There are two types of people who sell Yugioh cards on ebay -- those who try and sell them for reasonable prices, and those who sell them at extremely low ones. You want to find people who have a very high rating, have sold a lot, and are of the latter type of seller. The person I bought from has a 99.9% score and 15,000 ratings, so I can feel pretty safe. Be sure you read through the entire listing and understand completely what you're receiving. Make sure the cards are English, make sure the shipping isn't something ridiculous like $20 on a single Mirror Force (which I saw), etc. MAKING A PROFIT So your booster box arrives, and you're twitching to rip open all the packs. Not so fast! If I were you, I'd use the pack-weighing method. This method is described in detail in a file ExMinionofDarkness has a link to in his signature at the Pojo forums. After determining which packs have holos in them, you can do a few things: *Try and resell the packs without holos, which would be a bit unethical. *Return the packs without holos to a store. Claim you don't have a receipt, but that you bought the wrong set of packs by mistake. You'll probably be able to get store credit. Make sure the store carries the booster set you're trying to return! This is more ethical, IMO, since most stores are already being hit by pack-weighers. *Take the noble high-road and either tear open all the packs and suffer through tons of normal rares, or resell them all. WHICH SET TO BUY Which set of packs you're going to buy all depends on what type of cards you need. I recommend buying one of the reprint sets since there's less chance of there being tons of identical commons. Buying a box of FET or TLM is just begging for 25% of your commons to be repeats of each other. Well, I'll post part 2 after the box arrives, and I'll tell you how I'm planning on profitting from this. |

yah, there are so many things on Ebay, all sold at different prices. Just be careful who you buy it from. And yah, that pack-weighing method is a good one and to many a cheap one. Cheap in the sense that you are cheating teh person selling. |
