garden city tourney report!

 ok, so, it's the 17th, and after 4 hours of arguments with friends, overudlewing myself to exhaustion, and staying up til 1:00 am ion the phone, we were all finally ready to take on garden city the day after tomorrow! i fall asleep as soon as my head hits the stuffed bear i cal my pillow, and i wake the next morning at 6:30 am sharp to get everything set up.

ok, so i get up at 6:30, preparing for everything... my friends (the ones riding with me, anyway: adam, eric, talon, ahren, and Nathaniel is their names.) have all agreed to meet at my house at 9:30 sharp to pack ourselves into adam's mom's seatless car, and set off on the 5 hour drive.

we're about half an hour into the drive, and already my friends and i are getting antsy. in just one minivan, even seatless, packled with luggage, my friends and i are starting to get kinda cramped and annoyed with each other. we relieve some of the stress with a couple good duels, and find that some of us have gotten even better since last we were all together. after another hour or so, we stop in bay city in a card shop known as the stadium for a potty break. there, we find a duelist who has just won a tourney that had finished about 15 minutes after we got there. once we began dueling him, taking him on one at a time, we found he ran a traditional format burn deck, as the tourney was traditional. the first one to face him was ahren. he found that even when he finally managed to get his CCCC to work against him, a combo of raigeki and harpies feather duster, coupled with rfs, took him down rather easily.

next was Eric. he hadn't watched the duel, and quit 2 turns in when raigeki, harpie's feather duster, and yata-garasu were used in one turn.

i came next.

i summoned 1 monster in def and ended my turn. simple enough.

he laid a card facedown, summoned solar flare, and ended, leaving it at 75/80

i drew. i plaid nobleman of extermination, removing his gravity bind and giving me an edge. i then flip summoned the insect knight i meant to draw him to atk with, and summoned mad dog of darkness. insect went at solar flare, and mad dog went direct. 57/75
his turn.
the guy draws and plays raigeki. then summons yata-garasu and atks direct with him. annoying. ok, so i don't draw, but i do summon my giant orc, and lay 2 s/t f/d. next, my orc atks idrdct for 2200, and i end my turn. 35/75

he draws and summons TIV, meaning to discard, but my skill drain stopped him in his tyracks. he decided to go ahead and atk weith it, but i played my cylinder, and left his lp in shambles at 19 to my 75. he lays 2 s/t and ends, so i draw.
i play my heart of the iunderdog, and switch my orc back, since his effect was negated. i then atked, which turned out to be a mistake. cylinder. 53/19 it was all good, theni summoned luster dragon and e/ted.

he set a mon in def and e/t. i figured now was as good a time as any to end it. tribute my luster for ha des, premmie luster, ha des and orc go for the game.

then i t was adam's tiurn. him and his CCCC got a beuatiful hand, and was clearly winning 2-turns into the duel, when his mom got impatient and said we had to go.

so, we bid the card shop adeiu, and continued on for the rest of the boring, uneventful trip....

so we've arrived at the hgotel, and i just got done with my deck. adam's mom says she'd like to sleep, and it works, cuz pandemonium, the card shop the tourney is at, isn't far off from where we're staying. so we walk off to there while she rests up.


so, we get to the store after an hour of searching for where it is, and find that the soi sneak preview is currently being held... none of us enter the actual lthing, but we do plenty of trading and dueling to get a grasp on the meta down there. we come home about 4 hours after we left, and slept a good, long sleep after an exhuasting day. (except eric. he was under the impression that if he stayed up all night, he wouldnt;' have to worry about getting up early... to quote carlos mencia, dee-dee-dee!)

TOURNEY DAY (bout time)************************


som, we wake up at 5:30 in the morning to get ready, and take 2 hours to do so, which works, cuz we got there just in time to see them opening the doors. we enter, fill ot our decklists, and start some trading b-4 the otunrey begins.

ok, before we go any further, my decklist may be useful now....

now, for the tourney.... (A/N: Keep in mind that i started out recording everything that happened, but quit that 3 turns into it...)

i met up with my friends that didn;t ride down with us, :dannie, alec, and Jessie), and we all ahd a breief meeting before the tourney began. with all of us together, (me, talon, nathaniel, adam, eric, ahren, dannie, jessie, and alec), we were team huron! (after the lake we all live right next too.)

the 1st match:

irony of ironys, my first match was against talon sivrais, of team huron.

ok, continuing on... Talon summoned his newdoria and played 2 s/t f/d. e/t
i drew. perfect. i played my giant trunade card, then went ahead with hammer shot. ordinarily i wouldn't use it on such a weak mon, but newdoria is, after all, newdoria. then i summoned my insect knight and went ahead with 1 s/t f/d. atk for 1900 peachy keen. e/t.
he draws. one mon in def and an s/t f/d. e/t.
my go. i play my f/d, ultimate offering. thenm i tribute my knight for ha des, and pay about 1000 lp to summon mad dog of darkness and luster dragon. ouch. ha des kills his f/d cyber jar, and then my 2 beatstix go direct for 3800. HAZAH! 23/80. my turn to feel the pain, hisd turn to go.
he plays MST on a f/d he laid himself that turn, and then plays it. jammer. genius. he discardss end of anubis. premmie to get anubis, then he goes in for an atk, and i feel the hurt. 76.5/15. my go. i play dark hole and wint it with the insect knight i had drawn. the next match was pretty much the same, except the final result was 13/0... didn't keep track though.

after the first match, winning had never felt so good. it was incredible! i know that i had played him before and everyth8ing, but i had beaten him in a tournament like this! so it was only natural i underestimated the burn deck i faced in round 2, which had beaten adam.

he beat me after i hard oifught, duel, with both of us s-decking, but he turned out on top with a hit for 6000 with his wave-motion cannon (crap i hate that card)

so as of now, the record is:

eric: 0-2 (and he quit after this match, exhausted, having not slept the night before)
ahren 1-1 (he also quit, to do some trading in the sneak preview in the other room.)
adam 1-1
Dannie 2-0
me 1-1
jessie 0-2
nathaniel 2-0 (his final countdown deck kicks ass, as much as i hate the card)
alec 1-1
talon 0-2

we're down, but not out!

round 3. i faced a monarch deck. this thing is wicked. i didn't stand a chance, and he took me in 5 turns or less, both matches.

round 4: CCCC this one i took down with ease, having s-decked, soul release and noe for sakus and ot stop things like premmie,, coth, and many other powerful cards high on the ass-kickery scale.

round 5: ok, i'm 2 and 2, and now i'm getting scared. i won't stand a chance at top 8 if i lose just 1 more match, and even then it will be slim. lucky for me, though, i took this burn deck down, after msting his WMC at 7000. (it's always that card or lava golem that kills me. tp coulda told you that. teeheehee)

round 6: this one i lose. ok, so this CCCC took me in the ass, but i still got a chance ot top 32 or up, right? not anymore,

round 7: this duel i remember quite clearly. remember that giuy from the last tourney report i did? well, him and his defense deck were there, and were 3-3 like i was. he took me down, incredibly enough.here's howe it went:

1st off, he managed to get neo aqua madoor out quite easily. not sure how, but he did.
i played my giant orc, and tried to atk another def mon he had set earlier. he plays staunch defender and cross counter, anighlating my orc, and forcing my insect knight to atk him, doubling damage for both of them, and killin ghtme both! 3800 in that one turn left me open for minal goblin official after a coull meteors and final flames went into play. boohoo, 3-4.

round 8. if i win this, i manage to get 4/4, and look somewhat respectable, at least.

well, here goes nothing.

he wins the dice roll and goes first. 4 s/t f/d and he e/ts.

beuatifully enough, i storm his ass. or so i think. here comes dark deal! silva emerges, and, having drawn no monsters, i simply lay 1 s/t f/d, play heart, and e/t.

he draws. he summons brow, and they both try and go. but it doesn't work. i play my cylinder, and the score at the time was 62/47, my lead. i drew. summoned skull. heart activated as i showed and drww again. mechanicalchaser. heart activtaes once more as i draw for the 3rd time. cyber jar! yes! i set one mon in def, and e/t there. he draws.noc, and he blasts my lp for 4100... ouch. 21/43.. well, i'm down but not out! i play my dark hole, heavy storm combo! ghe repsonds to storm with threatening roar and simultaneous loss, so i lose my orc, and he loses his orc too, next up, my mechanicalchaser hits the field, along with one f/d s/t. the i e/t. he draws. he sets 1 mon 9n def and e/ts. perfect enough. i draw. noc his f/d, summon hte archfiend soldier i drew, and premmie my cyber jar. 15/47, as my chaser, jar, and archfiend go direct for game. the next round was much more difficult. he plays soul absorption, and plays the same strategy, excpet he uses strike ninja and necrofear to remove his big guns, then coems at me with RFDD. luckily enough, saku and cylinder manage to save me most of the damage, and i went in for gg after that.


well, it's not much of a tourney repoirt, but there you go. the finals scores were as such:

adam 4-4 (ubt he didn't play the last one)
ahren 2-6
eric 0-8
jesie 1-7
dannie 2-6
alec 2-6
me 4-4
talon 2-5 (he qiut after the 7th round.)
nathaniel 5-3/.

well, i've seen worse record, excpet maybe for eric's...

 lol well, if you ever want to buy a peice of toast with michael jackson's face on it for 520 bucks, eBay's good for you!

I'm serious, I saw Michael Jackson toast on there. It went for $520.
